Love what they have going on down in Tampa. Jealous too.

they are creating a long term positive, team synergy and winning environment. All of Tampa players took some kind of discount to help the team because it's not a individual sport.,.Toronto doesn't understand how to build a contender team like Tampa.

Once there was a time, when no Avs player made more money than Matt Duchene. That was Avs' ceiling for player salaries.

I can see the same thing happening in Tampa. No player shall make $10M. The players know what they're worth, but will they all agree to leave money on the table to keep together this fantastic core that has came so close to winning it all a couple of times in the recent years? I'd say that yes, they will all take discounts. And why wouldn't they?

Captain could earn an extra $2M a year, but he doesn't.

#1D and an every-year Norris candidate could earn an extra $3M a year, but he doesn't.

One of the best wingers in the game could earn an extra $2M a year, but does he? Yup, he doesn't.

Point could say: "give me my money. I DESERVE $9M a year, at least. And I could get more. I know my worth".

But I think, that he'll sign for less. 5 years, 7.66 million dollars. Something like that.

When three of your best team mates are setting an example and doing everything they can to one day win the Stanley Cup, there's not much left for you to do. Either you leave the same $1.5M to the table as everyone else, or you leave.

I'm just waiting for that Callahan contract to expire. Can't wait to see what Brisebois is going to do with that cap space.

 Are you kidding? We EXPECT it. I fully expect Point to come in at more years and less money than both Marner and Matthews.

Ya it sucks for TO.. Cause IMO Point should easily get the exact money those 2 want/get. I actually like Point more than them

Point is a smart guy, they have a nice team in TB. If he does a bridge at a discount it really helps his team stay competitive for a long time. I see Point as a team guy. His teammates before him are.

I'll probably be jealous of the contract (as a Leaf fan) the way Tampa bay seems to get all their guys to buy in, and take a bit of a discount.

In saying that ... if Dubas gets the big guys signed... and still keeps a solid enough mix around them. . Leafs will still be good for a long time.

Drafting is going to be even more important for the Leafs now.

Point will probably take 9 something on a long term.... wouldn't surprise me.

I wish someone else would sign before Marner... maybe it'd help a bit.

Yes I hate it when people start saying it's about the taxes. It's about a winning culture and people wanting to stay there.

Tampa's got the advantage with regards to taxes, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Point sign for less than what Matthews got. Might still end up with more money in his pocket regardless.

Certainly seems more durable than Matthews has been, too, and he's putting up fantastic numbers this season.

Ya i was just wondering to myself if Point/agent will wait till Marner does his crazy thing first and gets his 11ish per year before he signs his discounted deal. Let the Leafs continue to get themselves in their mess Dubas is doing. Cause if Point signs a friendly deal, that would forsurely cause TO to attempt to bargain Marners deal waaaaay down.

But then again i dont think the Tampa guys really care whats going on elsewhere and they just do whats best for their team

Most of Matthews' contract is signing bonuses, which in his case significantly reduces the tax advantage Tampa has.

The difference is that our GM is a f***ing cheerleader, while Tampa has done a good job of creating an environment players want to stay in for/below market value. I wonder what that's like.
