a cost controlled veteran 30point top 4 RHD is something that's worth trading a low 1st rounder for.

You should really just look at what you acquired Erik Karlsson for and then ask yourself again if Braun is worth what you stated

What was more laughable was that you wanted a 30 goal scorer shutdown C with a caphit in the 4M, and you wanted us to retain even further on that??

Braun is about as good as Hainsey, but younger and right handed. he's not a bad player, but he's probably not worth much to the Leafs

Yuck. Adding a 1st to Braun (who's worth a 1st) for an offensive #3/4, who'd end up on our bottom pairing. No way he'd play with Burns or Karlsson. And he wouldn't fit with Heed, who would be our bottom pair RHD if Braun goes.

Lol, this is yuck but asking for Kadri for Braun is A-Okay.

Man Justin Braun just keeps getting more valuable by the minute, one could say Tanevesque

Leafs don't need a Justin Braun, they've got lot's of 5/6/7 guys

That’s exactly why they need a solid defensive defenseman like Braun. Being attached to MEV, he is top-20 in terms of ice time against the toughest players in the league. To call this guy even a number 4 completely discounts his role in shutting down players like Crosby, McDavid, hell even Mathews and Tavares. Justin Braun doesn’t lead the pair, but that doesn’t make him a bad player. He uses his size and speed to complement Vlasic’s game.

SJS could use a pick to make a deadline deal with that said, rather the Leafs have that ace to play at the deadline. SJS proved you can get a 1D for a few late picks and third tier prospects.

Leafs fans seem to have no idea what they’re talking about WRT Braun, but what else is new?

Here’s the scoop: Braun didn’t have a great year last season, but neither did Vlasic. Why? Because they literally played by far the most difficult defensive minutes in the whole damn NHL. I’m talking extreme defensive zone starts, I’m talking being hard-matched to Connor McDavid 20 minutes a game while playing behind the Sharks’ friggin’ 4th line (thanks DeBoer!). No other players in the league played minutes like Vlasic and Braun. It’s not a shock that they didn’t knock it out of the park.

If you’re trying to acquiring Braun with the intention of burying him in the defensive zone with your fourth line against Crosby and Ovechkin, he’s probably not the player you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a player who can play middle pairing minutes with a solid #3D (say, Jake Gardiner) against upper-second tier competition and behind a Matthews, Tavares, or Kadri, and succeed in those minutes, Braun is your guy.

He’s neither as good as he was three years ago, when he was just as instrumental as Vlasic in completely and thoroughly shutting down every team’s top threat en route to a SCF appearance, nor is he as bad as he was last season, when he was set up to fail.

If we didn’t have Karlsson (holy shit it’s real), then neither we nor Doug Wilson would entertain moving him for parts. As it is, we’re open to offers that aren’t complete garbage. We might have been trading with Dorion to get Karlsson, but you’re dealing with Doug Wilson to get Braun. He doesn’t lose player trades.

Lol this is so silly... By this logic, Rielly would be one of the best defensemen in the game playing beside ron freaking hainsey and suffering the hardest minutes every night. You can't possibly be comparing SJS d-core to the leafs d-core and saying yours is worse.

We aren’t. We are saying that it’s much different to play against McDavid, Kopitar, Getzlaf, etc. most nights all night. Toronto doesn’t have the pieces we would be looking for currently. Unless you are giving up Kadri, we won’t move Braun until the offseason. Only way we move him is for a 3C.

No, that's not how that logic works.

This has been discussed before.

Majority of leaf fans agree no to a 1st round pick. No to sandin+2nd.

The best offer i saw was bracco+ 2nd + i forget what B level prospect but now Id even reconsider adding bracco personally. Dont think it would really hurt us if we did since we have marner i just think braccos value will rise this year.

I like braun but no chance at a 1st round pick or lilly/sandin.

Many Leafs fans are acutely aware of QoC and it's impact, because Babcock is one of the most fanatical line matchers in the league and has given Rielly brutal deployments. The problem is we'd be acquiring Braun for that exact role, getting all the tough matchups on the Rielly pair.

Vlasic - Braun were integral to the 2nd best PK in the league. Thats why the Leafs need him, we are in dire need of a reliable PK'ing defensemen right now.

Douglas Murray and Brad Stuart got us not one, but 2 2nds. Each. And they are were both older and more objectively worse than Braun. Also I never said anything about retaining.

on most teams he isn't. But he has Matthews and Tavares playing in front of him. But in SJ he'd have Couture and Pavelski playing in front of him, so that isn't any better for him. He'd be a #1C on a team like Carolina who are in desperate need of Centers.

The Sharks are all in. They aren't trading Braun unless they get a pretty good asset coming back. Leivo and Carrick probably wouldn't crack the lineup and a late 2nd ain't much. That isn't worth trading a solid defensman when you are going for a title.
