They can't trade Brady , it would be a PR disaster for team and organization. Fan backlash would hardcore, average fans not just the HF board hardcore's would freak.

This situation is a bit of Karma coming to bite EM in the ass, cheaping out on players in the past.

This is the NHL and if he wants to be a owner he needs to pony up the cash or get out of the game.

As always, it depends what comes back. Signing Ryan was a PR boon, until it wasn't. Colin White is a good player, until you look at his salary, then he's an anchor. Fans aren't dumb. They value players according to their pay.

Also $8M+? The f***?

It could be spun as Brady thinking he was bigger than the team. And if the rumoured numbers are accurate then I might be inclined to agree.

Bridge him for 2 years and then trade his greedy ass if he hasn't broken out and is still asking for that kind of money.

Could allow us to avoid another White-type contract where we overpay a kid with a mature pro-style game because we're expecting significant growth in his offense that does not materialize.

Hold the line Pierre. Can't give in to this nonsense.

No, it won't.

We've traded away a boatload of stars and fan favorites over the past 25 years. No single player trade will sink an NHL team. Hell, Edmonton moved f***ing Gretzky in his prime, and the Oilers are still around.

I mean, going off that statement, we could end up with another Chara and Spezza given the current situation..

I think I'd actually rather a short-term bridge than a longterm deal at this point given the numbers being thrown around.

8 x 8 is extremely generous for Tkachuk, a clear overpay, and should be the absolute max we offer.

The perceived savings of a short term are going to be very small. I'd rather them cave on the value of the 8 year than the length of the contract:

See Pettersson and M. Tkachuk.

The star forwards have learned from Barkov, pasta, Mackinnon, etc. Its short and high or long and higher. The discount mid-length bridge is dead.

The Formenton-Norris-Batherson line looked really effective maybe that opens up the door to try Tkachuk with Stützle. Stützle could be moved to center or maybe a better option would be to try a Tkachuk-Pinto-Stützle line.

That way the top six would look like:
Tkachuk-Pinto-Stützle
Formenton-Norris-Batherson

Hopefully team keeps trucking like they did tonight instead of what they did vs Leafs and Tkachuk doesn't endup a distraction that he could be, and the negotiations just play out however they do.

8M-9M for Brady is lunacy.

That's 10% of the team's salary cap.

There is no way anyone would be okay paying that kind of money to a player that performed exactly the same as Tkachuk, but carried a different last name.

At which point do we separate the love for Brady from actual insanity? 45 points, 44 points, 36 points. That's what Tkachuk has done so far in the NHL. 60 goals, 125 points in 198 games.

8M-9M is close to ''top winger in the game'' money. How is it not enough? What in the actual F is he thinking?

1) The organization is extremely deep at LW, arguably the least important position in the sport & the easiest to fill.
2) With Batherson, Norris, Chabot, Stützle & Pinto in the fold, one might wonder if Tkachuk will even be a top 3 scorer on the team year in and year out. That's the definition of ''complementary'' and regardless of intangibles, that's not worth 10% of the cap. Especially not in Ottawa.

It'll be impossible to build a legitimate, sustained cup contender with a Tkachuk type eating 10% of the cap for his intangibles while Stützle, Norris, Sanderson & Pinto will all be up for new contracts; every single one of them having a reasonable argument of being an equal or better player than Tkachuk by the time their ELCs expire.

The team's current clear cut best player is Chabot. He signed for 8M x 8 years with no salary bonuses and limited trade protection. No moaning, no bending the organization over a barrel. Just recognized a fair contract and signed it. What argument does Brady have to deserve more? The captaincy being handed to him on a silver platter?

RFAs:
- Andrei Svechnikov 7.75M x 8 yrs (2021)
- Josh Anderson 5.5M x 7 yrs (2020)
- Kyle Connor 7.15M x 7 yrs (2019)
- Mikko Rantanen 9.25M x 6 yrs (2019)
- Clayton Keller 7.15M x 8 yrs (2019)
- Tom Wilson 5.16M x 6 yrs (2018)

UFAs:
- Gabriel Landeskog 7M x 8 yrs (2021)
- Kris Kreider 6.5M x 7 yrs (2020)
- Anders Lee 7M x 7 yrs (2019)
- Evander Kane 7M x 7yrs (2018)

Again, what the F is he thinking?

Garrioch now saying that bonuses aren't holding up the deal, and have been off the table for a while.

It’s believed the Senators have offered Tkachuk an eight-year deal that will pay him $8 million per season. That’s the exact same deal the club agreed to with defenceman Thomas Chabot in September 2019, and the sense is the two sides aren’t that far apart on money.

There have been suggestions the two sides are trying to find common ground on structure. Though several reports have suggested they haven’t been able to come to an agreement on signing bonuses, we’ve been led to believe that’s not the case.

So, what’s the hold up? It’s hard to say, but the best guess is there’s still a gap in terms of money and term.

Sounds like - as I expected - the Tkachuk camp want more than 8x8 to compensate for a lack of bonus cash.

How much better is the team we saw tonight going to be with Tkachuk also in their lineup along with Stutzle, Sanderson, JBD, Kleven, Greig, Sokolov, Boucher & Gustavsson at some point?

Why would anyone want to trade Tkachuk now after seeing what these other young guys can do, Tkachuk will only add to this group & make them even better & hopefully take a big step forward this yr. Who cares what he gets, just add him to the lineup asap.
