Thats Josh Andersen money!!!

Joking aside, thats about what I feel Krug is worth. I feel thats a fair offer for a d-man whos really good but needs to be really isolated (78% o-zone starts)

I think that is a pretty fair deal from Boston. Pretty spot on his value + being a career Boston player. Personally think anyone who pays him 7+7 years might regret it.

Definitely is sire. He has played on the best powerplay in the league. With the best men available. Almost only scores on the PP, not a strong 5 on 5 player. Only plays average a 16.30 on the even strength. Etc.
He is a powerplay specialist and boston can replace him fast. The world is gone crazy with these. You are right and know ice hockey period

counter point. Before Krug, with Bergeron, Seguin, Krejci, Marchand, Lucic, Horton, Iginla, etc the Bruins had a bottom 3 PP year after year. Since Krug joined the Bruins, only the Pens and Caps have had better power plays in that time...for obvious reasons. He is an ELITE power play specialist. In a league where a lot of goals are scored on special teams. But you have to protect his warts as you say. I personally would rather find a couple million more bucks and go for someone more two way, but the Bruins have been very successful with him playing that role.

Can't believe the Habs blew away so much on hype rather than try to land a legitimate top 4 LD. That's BargainBin for you.

He'll get that 7th year for sure.
Most likely, lots of teams are looking for a Krug. That 7th year on a UFA is always scary to me. Really any long term UFA signing through FA is scary to me. Committing 7 years to a player you have zero knowledge on how they will work on your team is a huge risk. But I am not an NHL GM, and I completely understand a player wanting job security.

Because Bruce Cassidy is a wizard at coaching the PP and Bergeron/Marchand are puck-possession monsters.

More to the point, I respect a team that offers a player a fair offer with a modest home-town discount and sticks to it. You make that a team standard and let every player know that if he doesn't take it, he can walk. By letting a guy walk once in awhile, you underscore the philosophy.

I always fear with guys like Krug they go somewhere else they will be like 80% the player they are in Boston(basically you are playing for a 60 point defenseman and get a 45 point guy)

Well, I’d argue what Boston is offering is a big contract.

I consider this very fair value. We all know a player can get much more in free agency typically (overpaid)... in a normal year he'd absolutely get it. This year, maybe not and perhaps that is why we see Krug return.

7 years of Krug at 6.5, or 7 years of OEL at 8.25?

OEL is better for sure and will age better as well (will be able to be a second pairing D/PK guy for a long time, like Weber). Both contracts are going to be rough though, that is for sure.

Can he get that much somewhere else under a stagnant cap?

A small defender that runs the best PP in the NHL, transitions beautifully, is a warrior, skates like the wind, and has no real injury concerns.

Eh? Krug is an ok skater, not fast by any means. He turns well, but not nearly as well as Gryz.

Thats the thing, Montreal isnt a good fit for Krug. We cant insulate him and use him to his strengths like other teams, we lack the 1LD all situation/shutdown D that would make Krug look like Krug

Go back and read the opening post in the thread ( 6 years at $6.5 million ) and the thread I quoted ( 6 years at $7 million ) - that's a difference of $500,000 a season.
They were talking Detroit offering 7x7 which is 10 million, sorry my bad I misunderstood.

I don’t know I think Boston is making the smart move. Power play specialist are great and all but what about when you’re not on the power play.

He's not useless 5v5. I think he's got a bit of Rafalski in him, lots of hard and soul. You don't want him being your main matchup D but that's fine.
