I finally saw a shot from Tarasenko that looked more like the old Vlad. I think he’s looking a little better each game and starting to get some confidence back. It’s got to be incredibly hard coming from that long break.

Another game it felt like they should win, but at least this time it was just 1 point missed. Hopefully this is a sign that Anaheim is going to stir up trouble against other teams down the stretch too.

I thought the blues’ passing and 5-man unit play was much more consistent. They can’t keep trending better like this without getting some better results soon. I think the team have felt the desperation that all teams need to feel before they can embrace the stretch run. We should really see what they’re made of now.

because they were the problem today?
Because they were scratched and I'm grasping at straws?

It's not that rare for a player to be held out if there is a trade brewing to keep them healthy, especially with this team right now and their inability to stay healthy for more than 5 days at a time.

larry robinson or bust at this point
ya know, I was thinking about this the other day.. wasn't he brought in right before the turnaround? I don't want to make him the HC, but I'd bring him back and have him consult with the coaching staff again

they were saying Dunn got dinged by a shot to the foot which is why he was most likely held out. why sit hoffman instead of blais or sanford is beyond me

or... straw grasping... whichever

Uh...did you not see the rest of this team? Binnington could be better, but there are 3 or 4 team-wide issues that would help a lot more.
Binnington has been brutal.

Now a better goalie wouldnt have helped us the last few games when we couldnt score a single goal but this one it could have.

Binny had a .900 sv since december of last season followed by barely above that this season.
People write off bubble as a fluke but truth is he was brutal most of last season outside of a hot first 2 months and the last 9 games before break where he had several games facing kess than 20 shots.

Giving him that contract before he finished that year with that trend of play last year was highly concerning. Additionally goalies are very fickle in the nhl. Outaide the top 5-10 goalies, there are many goalies who are good for 2-3 years before sucking a few until they readjust to have a couple decent seasons again.

Consistency just isnt that common with goalies outside of the elite so long term goalie contracts often end badly. Especially ones signed prematurely.

My rant train has left the station.

I get it that players leave. But teams don't let their cup winning captain leave because they’re scared of a NMC and signing a 5’9 Oompa Loompa in Torey Krug also while giving questionable extensions to other players.

Posters on here "Stop talking about Pietrangelo" Trust me, I f***ing want to. I want this team to prove me wrong. I want Army to fix his problems while at the same time I don't want Army to fix his problems that he created, I want him to get shown the door. But it was an totally inexcusable move then and it just keeps looking worse and worse and worse . Letting your stud blue-liner, MVP, captain walk in free-agency. Totally f***ing inexcusable to let it happen.

honest question...do you think with all the injuries, having Petro would be making that big of a difference? at one point, we had FIVE centers on IR
now having him and NOT having Krug, I get that part

and in 19, this team was next to dead last in the NHL WITH Petro on the roster

Going to? They've got 7 points in their last 11 games and just got swept in a 2-game series at home by one of the five worst teams in the league. I think the club has been in the midst of 'ugly' for a while.

Because we haven’t even hit the tough part of the schedule yet.

It's okay lads, just look at all these free points we're gonna collect soon.

Colorado is overrated, Vegas is overrated, Minnesota just plain sucks. We should be able to go at least 12-0-1 with that schedule, and that's giving Arizona a chance at winning.

Bust it is.

Wait a second, didn’t the Wings just beat Columbus?!
2x. John Tortorella should be packing up his office right now..

As long as he can consult from the beach in Florida in between tee times, sure.

Is this the captain that led us to the Cup? Or the captain that was a do-nothing leader when we were losing? Is this the stud blue-liner, or the shitty one skating around cluelessly firing shots wide that always went back down in our end? Is this our MVP, or the guy we could easily afford to lose because Parayko is just as good and only getting better?

Asking for another Blues fan, BTW.

Do you feel better when you scream life isn't fair at us? I hope so because fren we don't have a time machine.

I'm going to tell you my coping strategy free of charge. Step 1 is have a 1st round pick. Step 2 is after every loss only think about the next 18 year old savior we're going to draft with that pick and how the pick keeps getting more valuable! Whoa! Awesome right?

Haven't been posting lately. Feels like there's nothing of value to add on my end, but I'll give some general thoughts.

I'm not going to go on the signing Pietrangelo thing in excess, though my opinions on it were not secretive. And, honestly, his injury means he wouldn't be around to save the team either way.

This team has been unlucky to a degree, but we are also just not good enough, and our roster construction makes no sense. The Krug signing is already going tits up, and it's because of something that worried me at time of signing: He was a powerplay specialist that got to play with 3 super star forwards. He put up somewhere in the 24-30 point range on the powerplay unit for Boston, including 28 in 61 games last year. He has 5 powerplay points in 35 games for us this year. This is a complete and utter worst case scenario, and even Faulk's re-emergence as a top 4 defensemen hasn't made the money investment we have on our defensive side anything but a nightmare. It just feels plain as day Krug was an elite producer because he was on the Boston PP, not because he himself was elite to me.

Really though the big problem is the same thing I was worried about: This team has no identity. Our defense, especially with Parayko out, is not talented enough in there own zone, where as our forwards are good there, but they can't cover for net front screw ups. Our Defensemen are great at breakout, but our forwards just haven't clicked and our best ones are more 2 Way Forwards then 80-100 point players most of the time. Add in goaltending issues, and a huge contract given to a goaltender who is honestly still a question mark to me, and here we are. We are not close to as good as Minnesota right now, let alone Colorado and Vegas. We are below league average in Goals For, Goals Against, Power Play, and Penalty Kill. We are not a good team at any real element I can think of, and I honestly don't know if that window we had has been completely shut or was shut before the off-season started and we just didn't know it yet.

Hopefully we turn it around. I can't see us standing up to Vegas or Colorado (And Minnesota plays like we played 8 years ago, they just got rid of the terrible goaltender that made there elite defense look just good), but I'm not ready to root for tanking for draft picks so recently after a Cup win.

We started sucking when we went to the playoff bubble last year. IIRC Petro was still with us. Our play now is really starting to look like the painful bubble hockey that we all saw. Something is rotten with this team and I don't know what it is. It happened during COVID.

I was one of the people disappointed that we didn't sign Petro, and was mad when I learned it came down to less than a million in cap space. That said, while I do think he would help us, I KNOW that if he had signed that contract there would be even more people jumping on him than are Binnington right now.

What was the question?
Something about how "You're used to playing on teams that drive to the net and get to the dirty areas, why do you think that has been a struggle -- especially in the third period?".

They played a good game, and none of what he insinuated was a struggle for the Blues tonight, last night, or the night before that. Tarasenko was as annoyed as I was. What game was this guy watching? Seems like the same game some of our most vocal posters were.

1. Get a stopgap netminder stat. Husso's not happening and Jake Allen wouldn't have stayed just to play backup.
2. Hoffman + Dunn for a finisher.
3. One sound defense strong Dman who can shelter. Top 4 or Top 6 that can slot up, if needed.

Go from there. The team is >< close to winning games and we're running out of time.

We're not so far in the hole that the world is ending, this core is sound, they need to find the problems and make them go away or plug-in players that will help them do their job. As many people seem to think we'll be Sellers, we need to be Buyers. We're that close to the mark that one acquisition can turn it all around. This is not a time to give up.

Jake allen was already under contract for another year, also jake allen after being traded signed a 2 year extension to stay as carey prices backup(for less annual value than our contract with him), so obviously jake allen has no problem being a backup.

We just wanted to save money on backup goalie and we are paying the price.

Of all our problems, Husso is pretty far down the list.
