Personally I really like the practice lines he came up with. Now, nobody can complain about Thomas’ minutes, and I’ve wanted to see Schwartz-O’Reilly-Tarasenko since the day we made the trade. I think 12-21-20 will be a solid line too.

RIP Fugu ϶(°o°)ϵ
Thanks. These are the numbers I've seen that I think don't make much sense to compare for the reason you mentioned. Is it possible to check the Blues defensive statistics vs the rest of the league from 12-present, and then compare that to Jake's statistics vs all other goalies during the same span? I believe that would be more informative (if possible). I really don't know anything about Corsi or Fenwick or anything other than the usual.
For each stat, I'm going to include his ranks vs every goalie with a minimum of 500 minutes played. Stats will be listed in fractional format from best to worst, so a listing of T 47/93 in the SV% column would indicate that Allen was tied for 47th best in save percentage out of 93 qualified goalies with at least 500 minutes.

For team defense, I'm going to use the following all-situation (not just 5v5) stats: GA (Goals Against), xGA (Expected Goals Against), SA (Shots Against), SCA (Scoring Chances Against - NaturalStatTrick), HDSCA (High Danger Scoring Chances Against - NaturalStatTrick)

For goalie stats, I'm going to use the following all-situation (not just 5v5) stats: GAA (Goals Against Average), GSAA (Goals Saved Above Average - NaturalStatTrick), GSAAC (Goals Saved Above Average - Corsica), GAR (Goals Above Replacement - Corsica), SV% (Save Percentage), HDSV% (High Danger Save Percentage - NaturalStatTrick), LDSVC% (Low Danger Save Percentage - Corsica), MDSVC% (Medium Danger Save Percentage - Corsica), HDSVC% (High Danger Save Percentage - Corsica)

*Team defense stats for this year will be per 60 minutes to account for differences in games played.

It's pretty tough to get a fair read on a coach who's got a goalie that can't stop a beachball. I'm not a Yeo apologist, but I think we've started a narrative here that isn't totally fair. Last year we went in with 4 top 6 players and then one of them got hurt. This year we went into the season with a goalie who we KNEW could struggle, and has. At the end of the day, the buck stops with the coach. If we fire him, so be it.

This is a quote from a few pages back in the older thread, but I'm catching up and wanted to comment on this part.

My biggest issue with Yeo at the moment is his insistence on riding that goalie into the ground. I don't think you get the benefit of blaming a bad goalie when you have started that goalie 11 out of 12 possible games. If he is so bad that his play prevents you from successfully judging the coach, you need to start giving games to the backup who was given $1.75 mil to be a calming veteran presence.

Johnson has been less than impressive as well, but he had a .903 in his only start. His numbers were heavily dragged down because he was a dumpster fire against the Jackets in relief. I'm not incredibly optimistic about Johnson's ability to turn things around. I still think that both of our goalies have been better than the D in front of them (which is not saying much). But if you disagree and think we can't judge that system because of the starting goalie, then it is the coach's obligation to try someone else.

I get that we have had a light schedule, 11 of 12 is absurd if you think the biggest problem is the goalie. Only two teams have given every start but 1 to the same guy. The other is New Jersey. They started Kinkaid for 9 straight until Schneider returned. He posted a .925 while they parked their 3rd string goalie on the bench.

Yeo's Ok. Just a little tight and system heavy.

Bad goaltending will make any coach look bad.

On other thing. Every year under Yeo, the Wild went through a crisis, where they looked awful. After that, they went on runs where they looked terrific. Not saying it's going to be the same here, but STL has the talent, with a #1 Dman, a #1 C, a quality sniper, and some quality depth. What they seem to have lost over the last 2-3 years is that nasty physical edge that they used to play with, and made them very difficult to play against.
I took this from the main boards. ( I hope the poster won't mind!) I anticipate a lot of disagreement, but this bothers me more than anything about the team right now. This post really stung. The Blues are soft. We are no longer the difficult PITA team we used to be. There have been similar posts from other non-Blues fans. I really think the Blues have to recover that edge.

There's not much to disagree about. Blues are soft. Backes, Brouwer, and Reaves made that 2015 team tough as nails. Those guys were monsters on the forcheck. Now we have Eddy...and that's it. Blues need Schenn to play his tough style, and MAROON. He needs to be leading the team in hits. Paryako is picking up his physicality.

There is one that sticks out to me and that's Petro. I dont care if he doesnt lay people out but the after whistle stuff is embarrassing. Seeing him shoved around, face washed with little pushback cant keep happening. These guys can absolutely be nasty if they want, but they don't and that was something I noticed with Yeo's Wild team.

The last three posts I heavily agree with. Physicality is an issue - but more so the constant lineup.

Allen has been off - I think we can all agree on that, yet he has started almost all of the games. Jaybo hasn't been good, but he starts when available - I don't get this. We have a poop ton of depth - at D and no need to continue to put out a guy who isn't playing all that well. Allen is the same - last year during the final stretch - Yeo played him in every game - and then he fell apart during the last three. If he had had a spell taken night off, even if Hutton wasn't healthy from Husso or someone else - he may not have been mentally tired and fried the last 3 games.

Allen can not play himself out of a slump - not his mental make up. Yeo doesn't understand the players that he has and continues to put players out when they are in a slump and need to be benched.

The Blues have drastically improved their prevention of high danger chances. We now are top 10 in the league in fewest high danger chances allowed.

High danger chances against--Blues are ranked 7th with only 107 HDCA allowed.

High danger goals against--25 goals allowed on high danger chances--Blues are ranked last in the league with the most high danger goals allowed.

Nashville, with almost exactly the same high danger chances against, has allowed only 7 goals on high danger chances.

These are 5 v. 5 stats.

So...Allen is a problem...? Is anyone really shocked?

So what are the gripes with AV, and how do they compare to what we witness with Yeo?

I'm looking back at everything and it looks like he took almost what is a 1 line team deep into the playoffs. We appear to have more depth than most of those canuck teams

Edit: alternatively, Q

The only gripes I've seen is the reliance on an elite goalie. His defensive system leaves the low alot vacant. Not my personal view, just what I've read

I always figured Q would get a job in upper management with the Hawks when they were tired of having him coach the team. That would be a pretty nice upgrade on Yeo.

Thank you very much!

This shows pretty clearly to me that Jake Allen's poor performance is not relative to poor defensive play over his career, and only exacerbated this season.

If they pass on Q then DAs ass should surely follow Yeo out the door next summer after another lost season...

Yeah I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that he's the oldest player on the team. He'll be back to his prime soon!

Yeo doesn't have a clue when it comes to this guy.

Easy to understand.

His starting goalies for his entire VAN and NYR tenure were Roberto Luongo and Henrik Lundqvist. Two HOFers.

Sprinkle in a little Cory Schneider as well.

What a lucky SOB
