Was any information released on renewals after last season? There have been a lot of familiar faces missing on the bridge this year.

I feel going forward that season ticket holders myself included are going to resent being the ones supporting the team while a huge population of the fans just watch on tv for free. I would like to see the Jets be able to charge like $100.00 per household per season to watch the home games while keeping the ticket prices stable.

There was a $10 per household charge the first season (and maybe the second) for TSN Jets and there was at least some mewling about that - mainly because no other Canadian market had to pay that. But yeah, not a bad idea.

No one is forcing you to buy season tickets. If you are feeling resentful, then it's time to give up your tickets.

Do people really expect prices to stop rising? In ten years we’ll be last in league revenue if that happens. How do we keep up? Where else does the revenue come from?

This is going to be an issue going forward. Does anyone know the difference in price between first season and next season %wise?

In 2011 my P3s were $4230 or $94 a game now they are $4996.20 or $113.25 a single ticket.

The problem is it is growing at a rate higher than my wage increase which is zero under the current government.

That money went directly to your cable company.

It was actually a scheme by Bell to build a subscriber base in Manitoba as they broadcast the Jets PPV channel “TSN Jets” to their subscribers at no additional cost but charged the monthly fee to other cable companies.

Four rounds of playoff games per year repeated ad nauseam? Average playoff ticket price of $150 x 15,000 seats x 16 games = $36,000,000.

And I'm darn sure my $150 per seat average is low looking at the prices in round 4...

Media rights. They have a bad deal and they locked in long term.

There’s a balance for sure. I expect it to rise every year but rising far above inflation year after year isn’t going to work for me, especially in combination with playoff cost if that becomes a regular occurrence. I can pay it but there’s a lot of other things that amount of money can do for us.

What would be nice ( not expecting it all ) would be to have the Jets wave the 3% or 5% increase in any year they go to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Why do you say it’s a bad deal? I distinctly recall an interview that was aired on XM radio. It was Gary Bettman interviewing Chipman for an hour about the Jets return. During that interview Chipman said he was most surprised by how much they received for local media rights. It greatly exceeded expectations.

Yes local media rights will be re-done in three years and no doubt there will be increased revenue there. But probably no more than ticket revenue once you compound ten years of increased ticket prices.

I don’t think that’s realistic. There will always be pressure from the NHL to increase revenue. The NHL gets pressure from the NHLPA.

To add insult to injury there's rumour that the CRA will make employees who accept Jets tickets from their employer pay income tax on the face value (not sth cost) of said tickets.

It's not a rumor, my employer has been doing this "by the book" way since the beginning...
It's deemed a "Taxable Benefit" and we pay income tax on the face value of the tickets, should we win the draw and accept them.

They've been waving such increases in our faces every year since the beginning. What would be nice is if they were to waive it.

I think tickets should go up in parallel with the rate of inflation.

With that said True North:

1) has a sold out arena unlike other franchises whose empty seat ratio is 25:1
2) were gift wrapped MTS Centre
3) profit from literally everything sold at MTS Centre
4) just banned re-entry, increasing concession revenues exponentially
5) have their own website dedicated to ticket resale they profit from
6) took home a share of the $500 million expansion fee
7) are about to profit from a playoff run
8) spent much of their past 6 seasons below the average teams salary cap
9) are building True North Square. The Shed district will surround their property with more businesses they will profit from

And the grand daddy:

10) own a f***ing casino

If ever there was a franchise that didn't need to increase season ticket costs it would be this one.

I have been a season ticket holder for only three years as prior to that I was on the wait list. In the first five years since the team arrived season ticket holders did not have it bad. The ticket cost that I incurred to get in the building was way more per game than season ticket holders (I realize it is much easier now to pick up tickets at season ticket cost) and of course the playoffs. I spent over $1,000 for three singles for the playoffs a couple of years ago. I don't mind if people are upset that the cost is getting too high but I don't agree with the logic that the season ticket holders are funding this team for the benefit of everyone else. There are great perks to being a season ticket holder.

In any event the big fear in all of this is just how many people will be able to afford tickets in the future. Player costs will go up and therefore ticket costs will go up as well. Hopefully salaries will increase at a pace that will allow people to continue to purchase tickets. Time will tell. It is good to question the increase to keep things in check, however if everyone decides not to pay then we will have to get used to watching the Moose as our primary live hockey entertainment option. I don't think things will get to that but that is the alternative.

With respect to the expansion fee revenue there is no doubt that is a windfall to some extent but not quite as significant as it seems. Every time a new team is added that means that the other teams are reducing their share of league revenue. The fee is meant to compensate the teams for the loss of the future revenue.

Same. We actually opted out last time (to be fair, it was an afternoon game against a dull team, but still...).

What are the great perks to being a season ticket holder?

1. Guaranteed playoff tickets
2. Discount compared to walk up ticket pricing

Both being standard throughout the league.

Other than that the Jets have near the worst season ticket holder perks in the entire NHL

No need to run and duck from anything, particularly from posters who have spent $500 on the team in 7 years while you have spent $25,000 or $40,000 and they are telling you to quit whining.

There definitely needs to be a better balance between the TV and live viewer, which means that TNSE will need to hit big on the next TV contract. The Sens contract is worth something like $40M CDN per season - they signed when TSN panicked after losing the national rights to Bell. Something in that range would be great and hopefully eliminate the need for year over year increases at double inflation. But I suspect that TNSE would continue to jack prices up anyway until they get some pushback...and I expect that pushback will happen next year.

In the old days, when there were 5 or 6 Jets games on TV per year it made absolute sense to own season tickets. Now every game is on TV and I can buy any ticket for the ST discount price. There is just no value in owning season tickets. I have to buy 4 preseason games and then a bunch of other Tuesday games in January vs the Panthers that I would never buy in my wildest dreams if I wasn't a STH.

So for me, its a very easy decision. I'm not renewing and frankly, I don't actually know anyone in any of the other 6 or 7 groups that I associate with who is. I expect a significant turnover.

You chose to do STH so deal with it.
100.00 per household? Seriously dude?
The Jets are a first world luxury not at all necessary.

He’s right you’re wrong you see that right?
You want STH then shut up and pay up quite simple.
Us cheap folks don’t give a rats ass about STH
Truth
I love this post. Either you want ST's or you don't. Just make a decision if you want them or not. If you don't others are waiting. Personally I love watching Jets games live. I'm in a 4 person ST group for 2 seats with my 2 brothers and a buddy and have a ton of fun at games. I'm getting a little older and I'm fairly comfortable and bought in at a price point that fits well within my budget. Some people pay 100's for concert tickets for bands I wouldn't go to for free with a limo ride and a free supper thrown in. Everyone makes choices on what their preferred entertainment is worth to them. A gradual rise in ticket prices at least IMO is worth having NHL hockey to go watch. Especially with this young group of stars that is just getting started.
