Saying Couturier is the best in the league is as stupid as Kase> McDavid and Gourde > Marner.
He doesn't actually watch hockey, he literally just looks at charts to form an opinion. It's sad because he used to be a pretty decent poster with normal opinions but somewhere along the way learned about some obscure advanced stats and forgot everything he'd ever known about hockey.

Some of them are closer to expiration by now, and some of them buy out more UFA years than others, but here is a list of some players that make under $5M that seem to me to be a pretty good deal to me, just based on cap hit. I'm sure I missed a few.

Elias Lindholm: $4.85M
Faulk: $4.83M
Trocheck: $4.75M
Kadri: $4.5M
Couturier: $4.33
Klingberg: $4.25
Arvidsson: $4.25
Dumoulin: $4.1
Pesce: $4.025
Dadonov: $4.0M
Josi: $4.0M
M. Murray: $3.75M
Gallagher: $3.75M
Ekholm: $3.75M

It's the last year of the contract so most likely about to change, but Roman Josi had an AAV of just 4 Mio over the last six years.

edit: I'm too old and slow

Mack, Sheifele, Klingberg are the gold, silver and bronze, in my opinion.

Trocheck, Rielly, Josi, Hedman are a few that come to mind after that.

Just my two cents but I think Duchene was signed to a pretty decent deal. Seeing as some teams probably would even tossed an extra 1-2 mill at him. 8x8 is a pretty good contract for a 1b centre.

Is this a thread about pretty decent deals or the best contracts in the league? Signing a guy to an 8x8 who just broke 60 points for the first time in 5 years doesn't really qualify.

He scored 100 points once in a 10 year career and now you expect him to do it every year until he's 37 years old?
*sigh*

39G/85pts

34G/85pts in 68games (103pt pace)

36G/100pts

All for $6.125M per year.

Would need to drop off an absolute cliff for this to not be a top 5 contract with everything hes already done. Those are $10M+/year numbers

I'm not saying it's a bad contract, it's universally excepted that it's an amazing contract. All I'm disputing is the idea that he's going to score 100 points a year until he's 37 just because he did it once.

The most underrated defensemen in the NHL; Dumba and Spurgeon were getting less than 12 million a year. Dumba at 6, Spurgeon a shade under 5.2 million. Both are capable of top pairing and providing great offense and defense.

This. Was just about to say, how no one had mentioned Josi’s name yet is absolutely nuts. A #1 dman for $4M is insane value and the best you’ll get. Though this contract has one year left on it and he’ll be due more likely double than what he’s making now.

He had been mentioned 3 times already by that point.
