I'm not sure how I feel about this.... feels like they're dumbing the game down for the COD and BR crowd.
Yeah. It's the most controversial change by far.

From what I'm reading you can choose between the specialists who focus in medic / support / recon / assault and you can earn special tools like a healing dart or LMG so I'm fine with it. It also removes class weapon restrictions. Does it seem CoDey? Yes. But we still need to see more detail about the specialists and what they can do.

Also one of the specialists is actually from Canada  He has a Canadian maple leaf on his arm.

I have been a Battlefield fan most of my life but COD captured me these past few years with Warzone against all my expectations. I hope Battlefield puts together a nice effort here.
Battlefield 1 is probably the best game since Battlefield 2, which are probably two best games in this genre ever. Only COD worth mentioning in the same category of these two games is CoD4 MW.

Battlefield 1 was released in 2016. Is it even active now? Battlefield 5 was trash.

I've been primarily a Battlefield player my entire life along with a close group of players. I hated every COD in between COD4 MW and Warzone but I've definitely sunk a metric ton more hours into playing Warzone than I did BF5 and almost all that time spent was with friends I used to play Battlefield games with. I would love to jump back into Battlefield so I hope this game does the trick.

Classes removed.

No more Assault, support , medic, recon classes

weapons no longer locked to classes. Hell ya!!!

Yeah I'm not sure I like this either. To me Battlefield has always been about team play in a squad. Where everyone can find their own role and, when done best, the 4 of you can change the outcome of a game where there are 60+ players. It's cool as f*** when it works.

The chances are pretty high that there will be a bunch of weapons and gadgets in the game that will now never be used by anyone.

That might not be a bad thing. If players don't like them or find them useful, they shouldn't be forced to use them, IMO. In the past, with weapons locked to classes, you sometimes had to use a poor weapon to get an ability that you wanted or take an ability that you didn't want to get the weapon that you wanted. For example, in Battlefield 2142, few people played Engineer because the rifle choices were poor, despite the Engineer's other weapons and tools being highly useful. The latter ended up not being used much because few people (me included) wanted to put up with the Engineer's rifles, which basically created the problem that you described. On the flip side, I imagine that some players might consistently pick certain classes specifically because they like the rifle and have no interest in using the other tools and abilities of that class. For example, a person might like the Medic's rifle, but have no interest in healing. If he could pick that rifle and choose a gadget that's more to to his liking to go with it (like C4), he might actually use that gadget and help out the team more than he would've as a Medic who refused to heal. Either way, there's the possibility that the most useful abilities and gadgets could actually increase in usage if players aren't locked into specific weapon choices (and if the less useful ones decrease in usage, that doesn't seem like much of a loss).
