Barzal. Are we supposed to pretend that adding a bottom 6 plug would put Hischier over the top?
Yes, but Barzal is much better right now.I'd take Hischier alone.
He's two years younger and had a much better D+1 season than Barzal.
And Barzal had a much, much better rookie season. I'll change my mind if/when Hischier puts up 30 more points.I'd take Hischier alone.

Considering Hischier is the better overall player when both were 19, Zacha is added bonus if it were a tradeBarzal. Are we supposed to pretend that adding a bottom 6 plug would put Hischier over the top?
Are we supposed to just ignore the difference at their ages?I know people like to bring up what players did in their D+1 year to argue they'll be a better player, even in situations like this where Barzal's D+3 season was so good, but is there evidence that that actually is the case?
For example, a former 1st overall Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a much, much better D+1 year than Claude Giroux. But he's never come close to matching Giroux's career peaks. So if you'd compared them in RNH's rookie year, anyone saying "yeah, Giroux had the better year, but just wait until RNH is older because his D+1 blew Giroux's out of the water" would look foolish now.
Are there more examples of cases where it suggests Hischier will end up better by virtue of him having a better D+1?
Personally, I can't think of a single young center in the league that won't be better than Mat "One Good Season" Barzal within the next 1-2 years. Everyone else will get much better while Barzal gets much worse, that's the way hockey works.
Good grief, are you ever not offended? Barzal is winning the poll.
