You knew what I’d argue. In B4 it turns into a hot goaltender thread

Problem with the Islanders is they were a very similar team (with many of the same players) before they panicked two years ago, fired Capuano and replaced him with Weight.
So how much is Trotz coaching them up, and how much is merely restoring sanity?
Restoring sanity IS coaching up.
It's hilarious how desperate Hakstol made you when it comes to arguing against coaching, in particular coaches who are better than Hak.
“We were fortunate,” Trotz said, “because the basic principles of the system were similar. They played a 1-1-3 in the past. They didn’t have the 2.0 version. They just had the 1.0 version. When we came in with some of what we call our protocols and our ways of doing things, it connected the dots for them.
“There was a little bit of a cultural change – how we practiced and why we practiced. We gave them a lot of the why. It was: ‘this is what we’re doing … and here’s why.’ We gave them good examples of that – and then they’ve built on that.”
“Barry’s done a good job of implementing a system that’s easy to understand and where there’s not any grey area. Everyone knows their assignments, whether it’s D-zone, or neutral zone, or whatever. He’s done a good job of teaching it – and the guys have done a good job of learning it. There’s a lot of predictability in our game. You know what guys are going to do. You know how we need to play – and we’ve done a good job of sticking to that.
Flyers are in a playoff spot today if Trotz was the coach all season.
So why did Chris Mason go 1-7-1 with an .873 save pct & Nash finish under .500 & miss the playoffs under Trotz in 12/13?
Bueller?

I’m certainly not arguing that Trotz is a bad coach.Anyone can cherry pick a year, a player so on to critique someone but facts are facts.
The Islanders lost their best player, they hadn't signed much in the way of significance......
Everyone had the Islanders as one of the worst teams in the NHL this year but they aren't, giving credit where it's due.
You can do what? Why did Giroux have a record year under a coach whose system generally lacked offense?
See look, I can do it too!
You can do what?
OK, we agree that Trotz wouldn’t have been a magician during all the minutes Pickard, Neuvirth, Lyon, McKenna, & Stolarz played this season that would make the Flyers a division leading team.Take a one off scenario and try to make it seem like it's reflective of an entire body of work.
But to answer your question, Chris Mason was never a great goalie to begin with. He had been declining in consecutive years and was 36 during the season you are referencing. As you stated earlier, Trotz isn't a magician.
My point was specifically related to Trotz being able to overcome bad goaltending. Yours didn’t make much sense.Anyone can cherry pick a year, a player so on to critique someone but facts are facts.
