Matthews in better. Anyone voting Barkov is in denial.
I cast my vote for Barkov before the season began. [mod]

Matthews has an unreal start, but I'm not withdrawing my vote from Barkov until we can establish this is how Matthews is playing.

Because if he keeps this up I'm sure we'll sure seen Matthews vs Gretzky polls here.

he doesnt need to keep it up. he is already better

if you combine this season and last

Matthews: 44g/77pts in 68 games
Barkov: 28g/80pts in 82 games

Matthews is gonna have such a big year that polls like this are gonna get insta locked from here on out

I think the offense was close enough that I gave the edge for Barkov because of his defense. If Matthews indeed keeps this up, it's a different story.

The difference is pretty big. And Matthews is fine defensively.

it isnt really that close though. just based on this year and last years pace, Matthews is a 50+g/95ish pt guy

that is significantlly better than 28g/80pts. a bigger gap than barkovs advantage defensively

I agree, at this pace Matthews will outscore Gretzkys record on goals per season. But I'm not betting my money on it.

thats just being silly. matthews has 84g/146pts in his first 150 NHL games.

there is a lot more of a track record than just his current 6 game pace

This is how the silly Toews stuff started. People always value defensive play more than offensive play on here. It is simply not more important than scoring.

agreed. I can see making a case for a guy doing it with 90+pts (kopitar)
but it doesnt really fly here. also matthews is VERY good in his own end and is great at faceoffs too.
he doesnt kill penalties so ppl assume he is only an offensive guy

Not only is he very good in his own end, he's a neutral zone puck thief. It's delusional to seriously believe he isn't a really good defensive center.
