They're all kind of on the same tier IMO.

Of the bunch:

Tavares is an all around player, 2 time Hart Finalist
Backstrom may be the best defender, sick passer
Kuz is the best skater, amazing passer
Matthews is the best goal scorer but has yet to put together a full season

you think Draisaitl is getting 70+ as the 2C away from mcdavid?

71 goals vs 67 goals in 16 less games last year btw

Yet to be seen, but Draisaitl played well away from McDavid last year, and like McDavid, his strong ES numbers were undercut by a horrible PP.

And goals obviously aren't everything. It was also 112 assists to 76

Kuznetsov > Tavares
Backstrom < Matthews

tied

but given the Caps two centers had phenomenal playoffs run (best you can hope for from JT and AM) you have to pick them. I will say that JT and AM will have the better season in 19-20 stat-wise

Backstrom is the best player of the bunch. Best ppg and also easily the best 2 way player of the lot.
Kuzy has just elevated his game to probably be the most dangerous player of all 4 if you look at his past 82 games.

Tavares is not as good as Backstrom and its as simple as that. May score a few more goals but hes not as good in every other aspect of the game.
Matthews is going to be a gun for a long time but Kuzy just dominated the playoffs and has basically 100 points in his last 82 games. Matthews hasnt come close to that pace over a full length season.

Caps quite easily.

nice way to cherry pick. kuzy is gonna be doing his draft +10 this year, Matthews draft +3. a fair comparison?

Matthews has 74g across 2 seasons kuzy 80 in his CAREER. yeah, he has played 340games vs 165....,

here is a fun stat. Backstrom + kuzy havent hit 28g yet. Tavares has done it eight times and Matthews has basically put up at a 40-45 pace since he entered the league.

What do you mean a full season? He played a full season in his rookie year.

yeah but he only had 40g then. Kuznetsov had 83 pts this year! (exactly what matthews full season pace was, but AM would have had 18-20 more goals)

are caps fans gonna be the new pens fans?

Draisaitl played over half of his even strength ice time away from McDavid and had what is likely an outlier poor year on the PP. Yes we think Drai can score 70 as 2C, and McDavid makes up the rest by outscoring both Matthews and Tavares by a massive amount the past 2 seasons (even if you prorate Mathews over 82).

Hard to admit that as a habs fan, but the leafs' duo (see trio) is way more impressive and will dominate the game
