Interesting.....

This was the Avs broadcast's 3 stars of the game with Wood getting some love instead of Marino :

I think i recalled one of their announcers referring to Wood as "the heart and soul" of the Devils team.

I was like "Yeahhhh...okaaay, pal." :snide:

Alex Newhook somehow has a worse faceoff percentage than Jack Hughes, to go along with his 0 points in 8 games.

I think people are underestimating Wood now that he’s back. Last year, most of the board felt his absence really hurt the team - and it was as much mentally as his on-ice impact. Wood is the one guy on the team who plays with no fear regardless of the situation. He plays with a swagger and tries to intimidate the other team - with speed, physicality, and intensity. That kind of thing rubs off on the team - you watch someone on your team bring the fight, it forces you to up your level.

As you can tell, I’m a big miles wood fan. I’d love it if we could have a couple more like him so we could let him leave. But I don’t see Zetterlund In that spot yet. And I don’t see anyone else capable of this (maybe Bastian?)

What I want is for a couple of more Devils players to have Miles Wood's blazing speed.

THAT is what makes him unique to have in the lineup.

I'm not saying I'm not pleased to have him back but him being referred to as the "heart and soul" of the team?

Sorry, I don't buy it though he does play hard, though.

Mercer lapping him for the apple of Newfies eye this year.
Mercer has been more impressive in the NHL than Newhook has to this point.

Newhook is extremely overrated or at least he was. I'm sure there's a lot of panic with him right now with his 0 points in 8 games.

I didn't know about him until sometime last year and the way he was hyped was a little over the top for what he's brought so far. Like they were really gonna be hurting if they had to sell him off for someone like Giroux to go all in for a cup run.

Heart and soul is typically used to describe players that are not the best players on the team. Like I think I can remember Sergei Brylin being referred to as our heart and soul a lot back in those days, and we know Brylin wasn't nearly the best player on those teams.

It was something they said about Randy McKay also.

Man disappointing reaction from the Avs fans, didn't know they were such sore losers. Making fun of our (and team's) reaction to the win and laughing at us calling this as our best game (like how bad does our worst look and such). Complaining how they were missing this and that player, as if they don't have the #1 D and a top3 C in the league among other incredible players like Rantanen and Byram..

You would think they could symphatize with the Devils since they were also terrible for a long time. The Devils have been bad for a whole decade with goaltending and defence issues, so shutting down the reigning champs is a big deal. The success really got into their (avs fans) head quick.

I've been on this forum for a minute and I've maybe went over to another board once/twice...definitely did during the Hischier/Patrick saga. I really don't care about non-metro teams.

Probably for the better. I do read a lot of the post-game threads for most teams (even when they aren't playing the devils). Just to get a general feel how the fans feel about their players and staff. Especially interesting how fans react to a loss, and will they give any credit to the other team (very rarely) or just trash their own team (like we do).

Except Sarge brought a good amount of offense and Randy brought plenty of snarl.

Just 'cause Wood called out the team through the media, doesn't make him a "heart and soul" player.

To me, a "heart and soul" player is someone whom the team relies on to get them through tough situations.

You ain't wrong.

You guys got a great team to follow for the next few years. Could be the next great team to break through. Have fun!

I mean Wood is a heart and soul player. I think the Devils should keep him if he signs for $3m or less.

one of the Avs fans on the main board really brought up them missing Darren Helm as a reason they lost lol

get the hell outta here
You have to understand that the Rangers/Avs game was more of a high level game than the 1-0 loss because the Avalanche won the Rangers game so it was really a hotly contested battle of skill where the Devils are a boring trap team who lull you to sleep with their low event hockey if you're Bednar.

I agree on the latter, not the former.

To me, a heart and soul player is someone who helps get the team through difficult times.

And Miles just didn't seem like the type of person who would be a "Locker room presence" but more of a Follower, so to speak.

Just 'cause Miles spoke up through the media about the team, that does not make him a "heart and soul" player ('cause I'm sure that's where this opinion is coming from by some here).

I view Nico as more of a "Heart and Soul" player anyway.

This was one of the best defensive games I've watched from this group. And our PP finally looking like a NHL PP. Bratt to Hughes and vice versa already a very good pattern, just need to work pass to point shots and pass to the bumper (although I'm not sure Hischier has the shot to really thrive there)

Yeah.

To me, Nico is more of a Zach Parise type player who scores goals in the dirty areas near the crease and what-have-you.

I guess having more cups and the cup run in 2012 allowed us not to get so bitter? Also our fandom is raised on low scoring defensive games, We enjoy that type of game. Meanwhile the Av's fans are more used to more high scoring games.

Yeah) like a hockey is a one team game, where you should make some things for automatically win.
