We just need to go all out and take risks to try and win the game in OT. Sure we may lose a couple doing this, but we aren't winning any in the shootout so it's worth the risk.

Yup I did too. Great save, but we didn't really deserve to win that game based on the first 40 minutes where the team looked lost.

This.

I'll quietly take my point against a western leader and walk out of the room thanks...

I was looking at the 'weighted' playoff chances... and just by virtue of the fact that we got a point against a team with a good record, our playoff chances increased .7% instead of decreasing despite the loss.

In contrast, the Rags beating Detroit took 8% off of their chances.

Since we have an 'easier' schedule the rest of the way out, they have us predicted as the 3rd place finisher in the Met. Of course it is all fallacy, as playing the Isles X times is no walk in the park despite their record...

Too long for TV.

They should add up the average length of time between OT ending and the time wasted by figuring out and submitting you're 3 shooters, and the time taken up BY the shootout, and extend OT by that much.

My guess is, you could probably push it to a 10 minute 4x4 OT, and MANY more games would be ended via (*GASP*) the actual sport of ice hockey.

And reinstate the tie, like the game's supposed to be played.

I have read that the Players Asso. will not ok any OT that goes beyond 5 min. That rule change needs to be collectively bargained. Some think the league will push for 6 min with teams going to 3/3 after the first whistle after the 2:45 min mark in OT. The question hanging will they still go SO if tied. Problem is also too many ties in Reg. I really think the league needs to go to a 3pt Reg W/2pt OTW/1ptOTL set up for games.

The 40 minute no show is inexcusable and that falls on the shoulders of Pete and Sal.

Avs had their 2nd line out of the lineup.
A full effort would have resulted in a 3-1 win.

Have to give Avs some credit for the first two periods. They are a good team, at home, in the thin air.

And u can't bash Pete for the team not being ready, then give him no credit for playing so well in 3rd and OT.

I also agree on 3 pt system. But it doesn't solve the OT/shootout problem.

And I see 3 on 3 as just as much a gimmick at S/O.

The only real solution which will never happen is to Bring Back TIES, Period.

Hockey games should be won 5-ON-5(4-on-4 in OT) on the ice, not 1-on-1 in a skills competition.

If there's no winner after 5 minutes of OT, then NO ONE gets the extra point. And both teams move on.

Be careful with this. Pete will try it, he'll somehow manage to score, and he'll become a regular.

What would be so bad about that? Not like ANYONE else has scored in the shootout to this point. Besides you would think at some point he learned something from big bro, who was pretty good in the shootout

If we were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs I would love this. Not sure if the rules would allow him though. Maybe if he used a regular gloves and stick he would.

this reminds me of when Mariano Rivera wanted to play outfield in the final game of the season, (Yanks were out of the playoffs) and either Joe Girardi or the Yanks brass said ..NO WAY
