Overview:
The Canes come into this one shorthanded with goaltenders Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin on the shelf. Star winger Jeff Skinner also sustained what appeared to be a hand/wrist injury in last night's 3-1 loss in Minnesota. The Canes played a solid game last night, outshooting the Wild, but **** Justin Peters. Tonight, the boys are in Colorado for a matchup with the new look Colorado Avalanche, led by rookie bench boss Patrick Roy. Roy has his team off to a blistering start behind sickeningly good goaltending from Jean Sebastian Giguere and Semyon Varlamov, as well as a very well balanced scoring attack. The Canes will need all hand on deck (and probably a few more) to come away with points in this one

Players To Watch:
Team Captains Gabriel Landeskog and Eric Staal each have six points in their last five contests.

Lines:
Jiri Tlusty - Eric Staal - Alex Semin

Nathan Gerbe - Jordan Staal - Radek Dvorak

Drayson Bowman - Riley Nash - Tuomo Ruutu

God Knows - Brett Sutter - Kevin Westgarth

I think we can still win this one. Colorado is my second team and I've seen a lot of them so far this season. Despite their record they are beatable. Even with Peters in net. Granted, our offense needs to get their ***** out of their heads and get us some goals, but it's possible. If the Canes play like they have for a lot of this year and most of last night after originally losing Cam at least, they can actually pull this one out. I think the biggest key is not to mail in the game early as they have often this season.

So the Carolina Hurricanes apparently have never won in Denver. Last win for the franchise was 1996. Not sure how many games that covers though...as there were a couple of lockouts during that span and not sure they played there every year.

Well for many of those years the Avs were real good and the Canes were real bad so I can't say that record is all that surprising. Similar to how the Canes had a good home record vs Chicago over the last 10 years because the Blackhawks sucked balls in the early part of the decade.

Damn, there's already a 5-1 loss in there. Now what are we supposed to do? Match it?

Ruutu plays the game of his life, hat trick, two assists then breaks his leg skating for the empty netter, Avs come back with O'reilly to tie it and they win in overtime.

6-5 Avs

Good luck to the Canes tonight. Tough luck about the injuries, that's gotta suck.

Avs win 10-0. In the postgame presser, Peters attempts to explain his play by claiming he thought "quit winnin' for MacKinnon" was still a thing, and Nate would be flying back with the team to Raleigh.

Skinner, Dwyer and Harrison are skating right now. No skate for rest of the team. Gleason, Komi, Lindholm in?
