17 year old Amanda Anisimova, playing like she is the next Steffi Graff, is currently clobbering Sabalenka, 6-3, 3-love. Amanda closes it out like an old pro, 6-2. That was as delightful as it was unexpected. But she made quite a statement.

US media is starting to hype Anisimova up like crazy, although she’s a top level talent, so it’s mostly deserved.

Interesting stat.

Nadal killed De Minaur 1-2-4. In the first two sets it looked like a man versus a boy out there. Rafa dictated point after point from the backcourt, read his opponents shots easily, and just was a complete master of tactics, power, depth, and angle. The crowd was hoping for a big break through from Alex, and he had some wonderful moments, just never enough of them. In the very last game, Rafa seemed to fade somewhat, but other than that, it was a one-sided, dominant, alpha-male performance.

Did not see that coming at all.

Moving forward, the question for Rafa will be stamina and endurance. If he keeps it to three sets per match, he is still a serious candidate to win this thing. But he might have been running out of gas right at the end last night--likely the longer a match goes, the more vulnerable he will become. I also wonder how his legs feel this morning.

Just read that in Cilic's comeback from two sets down yesterday, Verdasco doublt-faulted on match point during the fourth set tie breaker.

Raonic plays later tonight vs. P.H. Herbert in the Round of 32. Starts at 10:30 PM EST.
Got the feeling the crowd might be tuning into Shapo/Nole scheduled for nearly the same time.

For those interested in the tweak Nadal made to his serve. May give him more explosion and thus buy him free points.

Medvedev keeps beating people, this time the quickly fading Goffin in straight sets.

Nishikori may be playing the best tennis of his career right now. Always been a fan of him.

Still, will be tough getting past Djokovic though.

Milos takes the first set! Herbert double faulted for the only break in the first set.

Shapo gets broken ugly, looking like his mind is somewhere else, 2-1 Nole in the first set.

Shapo trying too hard to impress right now, wanting to prove himself to Novak.

Just make the simple shots.

Denis is playing better but I still don't think he'll take a set. Milos is up 2 sets to love and is serving to get in a breaker.

Denis just dropped the second set. Milos is at 6 all in the breaker. Herbert's service motion is bizarre and I don't know how that motion helps him. It looks like he's sitting down just before he winds up.

Milos wins!

Just woke up. I swear it was 4-1 Djokovic in the third when I went to bed and that would mean Denis won 5 in a row. Is that right?

Staggered home in time to tune in for the 2nd set here. Happy to see Federer up a set, but still not a match I feel comfortable going to sleep during.
