I don't really understand the outrage. It was not a dirty hit, it might have been a tad bit late but Matthews shot created a rebound that went right by both Matthews and Andersson. He likely didn't want Matthews pouncing on that rebound.

He gave Matthews a shove into the boards from behind with his stick in his skates. It was pretty dirty.

They've been like this since the Tucker/Roberts/Domi days. Seriously, I can remember one incident of a Leaf stepping in and fighting for a teammate in 15 years (Clarkson leaving the bench).
Man I miss those days.

I didn't scan the last few pages to see if anyone else has pointed this out, but right now Matthews has the same amount of ES points as Connor in 2 less games played. (Matthews *only* has 9 PP points this year - surprising as the Leafs power play has been lethal up until the last two games - vs. 18 from McDavid)

I don't think anyone would have taken a prop bet that this year they'd even be close. Still a long way to go and of course that really only proves two things: Matthews is an ES beast, while McDavid is a beast at ES and the PP.

The powerplay production gap can be, more or less, explained away by powerplay time

My very uneducated, no inside sources guess is Matthews could miss a couple of games based on the way Andersen's "day to day" seems to be stretching into a week to week. But let's hope for the best.

Reading between the lines of some statements he could probably play at like 70% his normal level.

But I'd rather not risk it so am happy theyre being cautious for a game or two

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Rasmus Andersson hurt his wrist badly but they don’t want to single out an incident and a risk having other teams key in on his injury.

Oiler fan here - Sucks Matthews is out. Sucks that he might be dealing with a nagging issues this season.

Hope to see him come back healthy and this is minor. Would like to see him break the 50 goal mark. NHL is better when Canadian teams are contenders for a Stanley cup.

Most disappointing that it won't be best on best tonight, as the whole league suffers.

Guess you skipped the 13-14 season when we had Orr and McLaren on the 4th line.

Would enjoy these wins a little more if Matthews was in :(

Hopefully that wrist gets sorted soon, Keefe says they're waiting for "the strength in his wrist to come back" and how it's a "different situation than before" whatever the hell that means.
