Value of: Arthur Kaliyev

I’ve always liked the player going back to his junior days. He’s always looked like an NHL player when I’ve watched kings games, yet he’s being healthy scratched…could he be available in a change of scenery trade for a different young player and/or a pick?

Currently he’s in the last year of his ELC, will be a RFA after this year. What are LA’s plans for Kaliyev?

This is what happens when your developmental plan is to draft offensively talented players but force them to learn how to play to their weaknesses while delaying the work on what should be their strengths.

LA drafts players to support ancient sacred cows, not to supplant them. Draft a series of skilled centers? Yeah, let's sign and trade for veteran free agents and force the kids to break into the league as middle six wingers. Have a one dimensional scoring winger? Learn how to play 4th line grinding hockey while we trade a stud bluechip defenseman for a veteran one dimensional scoring winger - all while their mismatched bottom six young forwards get caved in during the playoffs.

Meanwhile, no series wins in 9 years, with just 6 playoff games won in that time frame. Then the lumbering mummy that is Kopitar gets a two year extension at $7 million per as your dunce GM decides that they need MORE centers instead of using the ones you just drafted.

Sorry for the rant- take Kaliyev for free. He deserves a good home.

Yeah, let's sign and trade for veteran free agents and force the kids to break into the league as middle six wingers. Have a one dimensional scoring winger? Learn how to play 4th line grinding hockey while we trade a stud bluechip defenseman for a veteran one dimensional scoring winger - all while their mismatched bottom six young forwards get caved in during the playoffs.

Meanwhile, no series wins in 9 years, with just 6 playoff games won in that time frame. Then the lumbering mummy that is Kopitar gets a two year extension at $7 million per as your dunce GM decides that they need MORE centers instead of using the ones you just drafted.

Sorry for the rant- take Kaliyev for free. He deserves a good home.

so would need to be kept on roster, or risk waiver claim

Its not really tricky in that sense. Kaliyev is an NHL player that required very little AHL time to begin with. He is not a fringe NHLer and isnt going to be sent down. A team that wants him on their roster as a goal scorer will trade for him.
His value maybe is tricky though because hes a goal scorer that has never gotten a real chance in the top six. So is he a top six winger or 3rd liner that can rack up on a 1st powerplay unit.

All signs are pointing towards LA’s intention to sell low on Kaliyev for a 4th line grinder veteran type player by the deadline. Blake will probably throw in an additional 4th or 5th round pick in the process. The only caveat is if ownership has put the handcuffs on Blake and prevents him from making any more moves but it’s clear that even with a new coach, Kaliyev is done with the Kings this season.

Penguins could use a forward prospect. We have Ty Smith in WBS doing well. Seems like similar situations. Swap?

Hell i don't know the player well but if that all it takes I would gladly take a project on. I would imagine if that all it took he would already be gone.

If you’re looking for a better player in the short term, we could talk about Marco Scandella. He’s an expiring UFA tho, so maybe not a fit?

I think old expiring UFA is not a fit for Kaliev.
