Habs got absolutely hosed there though. That's an "I hate Gallagher" call if I've ever seen one.

He is going to get his goals esp on the PP. That is never the question with him. Even most of the so called "Laine haters" (as termed by devout supports) admit that he will easily get atleast 35-40 goals maybe even more a season... the question is is he worth that at 10 million?

The Casucks are done. Another monumental collapse. Looks like it's a five-team race for four playoff spots now.

Lets wait when he signs the 10M if he does.
Then we can assess after if he is worth it.
As of now he is getting paid less.
He is value for his salary.

Right now that is JACKETS GM concern. Structually their cap is ok. Not much on wingers salary unlike the Jets which is winger loaded. That is one of the maain factor with Laine in Winnipeg.

Just feels like a similar situation for him there as it was here - very good PP numbers, atrocious 5v5 numbers, puts up points but his team still loses, and Columbus doesn't have a Connor or Ehlers or Scheifele to win them games when Laine isn't producing.

They may give him his money and he might get around 40 goals a year but I'm not seeing Columbus as a much better team with him.

Well-stated. He's still an amazing luxury for the type if team that soon won't be able to afford him. But a team that needs him to be the driver? Good luck.

Just to refresh he was the leading goal scorer of one of the best team Winnipeg has deployed and reached the farthest in the playoff.
Can't just say Laine scores and still his team losses.
While infact he had shown knack on winning and be center of it all in all levels he played.
Just not in the NHL yet. Many great goal scorer hasn't won anything and some took until they are veterans to bring their team to the top.

Yes, that's right -- is he worth $ 10 million, being a very one dimensional hockey player, who turns over the puck constantly ? Also his skating and stick handling is questionable ? He's basically a power play goal scoring specialist. Is that worth $ 10 mil per year ? He's quite ordinary 5 on 5.

Laine does have a great shot, so give credit where it's due. ( very limited player tho)

I'd personally take PLD all day long, a 200 ft. responsible center, who will likely score just as many points as Laine, and will constantly not be a big distraction. I love this deal for the Jets, especially if you look at the economics of the deal.

Don't disagree, but he's still young, and won't hit his prime for a few years yet. He has the size and skill and presumably also has the drive, so plenty of time to put it together, IMO. And if CBUS can add a few players who can drive play then a 40-goal scorer who can take your PP to new heights of lethality is a nice luxury to have.

I can't imagine trying to pay him 9+ and expecting to win. You would need a bunch of very good ELC players around him

fyi he was one of those ELC players in conference run and was a luxury we could afford.

Laine was leading all forwards in ice time again (all situations, was 2nd in 5v5 TOI by some seconds), 5v5 had 54% CF (best of all forwards) and even that shitty xGF% was better than team average, if not by much, and was +1 5v5. On top of that scored 2 PP goals and CBJ really could use the help on man advantage. IMO it wasn't even a game he looked particularly good in, but it was vintage Laine in the sense that he looked pretty cumbersome at times but still managed to be effective. Still, I can't think of any forward that looked better, Bjorkstrand maybe - though that was a horrible game by CBJ, it was such a mess especially early on, it was getting quite comical at times.

I've heard it said he's still playing with the injury that made him lose games with Jets, I dunno how credible that is but apparently it came from a Finnish sportscaster who is somewhat close to him and used to play in the same club in juniors in Finland (though 20 years before Laine!). If that's true that's bad, but at least he seems to be able to shoot both slappers and wristers, so if it's the old back thing flaring up, maybe the off-season training is keeping it in check at least... but he seems awfully picky about his shots and he certainly doesn't look like he did in his only game with the Jets and I don't think it's lack of trying, so there might be something to it.
