Even if Dahlen becomes a bottom six winger for SJ, it was still a bad trade. Vancouver gets a prospect and Ottawa gets to pay a guy to not play for them.

Why are you framing it as "Dahlen lovers"?

He was a solid prospect at the time, and you don't give those up for aging 36 year-old vets who can't produce anymore. Has nothing to do with hate or love.

Dzingel has said he wanted to sign in Columbus and apparently there was chatter between Columbus and Duchene re-signing as well. I believe it was Pierre Lebrun who said the thought was that Duchene would not be willing to explore future opportunities with the Jackets but that would've changed before they traded for him.

I mean they're not in terrible shape. Sure, they lose breadman but they potentially replace him with Duchene and Dzingel and just keep Korpisalo and let Bob walk. If they can add another piece through free agency they would likely be in good shape going forward.

The trade was still annoying but maybe it will stop being used an indictment of Dorion. Pierre knows how to evaluate young players.
