To a degree: being in a different division wouldn't have changed us and Ottawa having historically awful/incompetent owners or Detroit having completely mortgaged their future to keep their playoff streak alive.
Detroit's current playoff streak? It'll be 8 years if they miss this time. Even Montreal would have been 8 years if the covid seasons didn't occur.
All of these no-playoff streaks will break now that it's down to 50% making it. Even in the 90% almost 2/3rds of teams made it some years.
