What ever happened to the Stars? From Cup finalist last season to missing the playoffs this season. Before COVID hit I had them as the team to watch.

Bishop and Seguin out, bad covid hit, other injuries. Teams are so tightly bunched that few guys out makes huge difference.

Minnesota has gotten the short end of the stick by the refs repeatedly. I thought they had a decent shot to win that series, but when they lost Game 3 after starting out dominating and building a multiple goal lead, it felt like they just weren't going to get it done.

The stars got hot in the playoffs. Their goaltender was over achieving and their aging vets went all in.

This. Radulov missed most of the season as well after starting the season on fire.

I'd argue that Radulov was one of their lesser downfalls... Their Calder trophy contender Jason Robertson replaced him, both his offense and had similar or better numbers than Radulov did last season in less games playing the same role.

Radulov 19-20 60gp 15g-19a-34p +8
16:45 ATOI, 10 PPP

Robertson 20-21 54gp 17g-28a-45p +13
16:53 ATOI, 6 PPP

Roope Hintz was their 2nd line center, and was a game time decision after their first few weeks. Torn abductors in his leg - which makes his stat line all the more impressive.
Hintz 20-21 41gp 15g-28a-43p +13
18:14 ATOI, 18 PPP

Their goaltending
2019-20
Bishop 44gs 43gp 21 W 16 L 4 OTL 103ga
92.0sv% 2.50gaa 2so 5rbs 13.3gsaa
Khudobin 30gp 26gs 16 W 8 L 4 OTL 62gs
93.0sv% 2.22gaa 0so 2rbs 17.8gsaa

2020-21
Khudobin 32gs 32gp 12W 11L 7OTL 76GA
90.5 SV% 2.54 GAA 3SO 8rbs -2.4gsaa
Oettinger 29gp 24gs 11W 8L 7OTL 63GA 91.1 SV% 2.36 GAA 1SO 3rbs 2.4gsaa

So they lost their top center, their starter, their backup went from near Vezina caliber to league average, their 2nd line center played at less than 100% for 3/4 of their season... Those are just the numbers I'm familiar with from seeing my fantasy pool suffer.

I wasn’t referring to past Radulov numbers. I’m saying when he did play this year, he was easily one of their best players. Was over PPG so that is a loss for them. They would’ve likely made the playoffs if they had him all year.

If Hintz had been healthy for another week Dallas likely doesn't go 23-19-14 to miss. Hintz was playing incredibly well when he was on the ice, despite less than 100% for a majority of the season. He missed most of his time before Seguin came back, so Dallas had to play their 4th C on the depth chart on the 2nd line for 13 games. That definitely accounts for the 4 points they finish behind Nashville. I think they were playing Faksa at 2C at that point, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure if a healthy Radulov makes that difference, because of the weakness down the middle and average goaltending the Stars saw.

As others have posted, injuries made worse by their compact schedule sunk the Stars. Robertson's emergence gives them a huge boost, though. They'll be a thorn in our side yet again come next year, especially if Seguin returns to his usual self. Seguin/Hintz/Faksa down the middle with Benn, Radulov, Robertson etc. on the wings is sneaky good.

And play with a bad groin????
Worst case scenario it is still acting up and he doesn't play games following his quarantine and gets an entire offseason to train and heal. Best case scenario he quarantines and plays, and gets more games in to help regain his form. It's not like he's played much the past 2 seasons.

Either way I'm sure he and the Blues know more info regarding the decision than we do.
