DEPT of CORRECTIONS OF MY RANDOM BLATHER:
Yeah, sometimes, woof, I’m just talking out of my ass by accident.

Not sure if anyone paid much attention to this, or if it was just white noise lol, but I know I said several times that Montreal was in line to potentially get a very early 2025 1st from Calgary.

Nope. WRONG.

In my defense, I sort of skimmed the conditions here because it’s very “blah blah blah”.

I missed this condition:
“If CGY’s pick is top 10, AND FLA’s pick is NOT top 10, MTL receives FLA’s pick.”

So Montreal isn’t lined up to get Calgary’s version of 2019 OTT 4OA or 2020 SJS 3OA. Good because f*** the Habs.

And Calgary can tank away.

I know it was brought up before (by me) but matthews def has a shot at chasing down ovie for goals mcdavid chance to catch wayne for points? that one seems way harder but still to think a guy could crack 2000pts never would've thought that before

Matthews is at a great pace now.

The hard part hasn’t started yet, goal scoring decreases significantly with age.

Matthews needs to stay healthy and compete for more Rockets for another decade starting now.

“The Russian Machine never breaks” is thing because pure snipers break down, and high scorers start to get more assists and fewer goals.

Right now Matthews has an advantage against his contemporaries, because he was so productive early, but you can see the massive lead Gretzky had early on.

You can only beat Gretzky by outscoring him in your 30s.

This is goals scored up to age 26:

The Sharks aren’t getting enough attention.

Blackwood is hurt and they just traded their other goalie for a still injured Vanacek.

So their goalies are
Magnus Chrona (who’s parents apparently used a RPG name generator)
IMG_5321.jpeg
They got him in this trade:

And
Devin Cooley
IMG_5323.jpeg
who they just acquired in this trade:

The Sharks are already 16-44-7 (.291)

The 23-24 squad can’t be the worst Sharks squad ever but I don’t know if they win 4 out of their last 15 games with these goalies.

Recent bottom feeders that got below .300.
Detroit 2019-20
71GP 17-49-5 39 pts .275
Colorado 2016-17
82GP 22-56-4 48 pts .293

That’s it. The next most recent one
Atlanta 1999-00
82GP 14-57-7-4 39 points .238

Calgary signed undrafted prospect Sam Morton to an ELC, or at least they tried to. ELCs are only valid for North Americans aged 18-24. The NHL rejected it because Morton counts as 25 by how the CBA defines age as how the old the guy is on September 15 of that calendar year. Morton turns 25 in late July. Realistically not a big deal, I think he's just ineligible for the ELC performance bonuses which he seemed unlikely to attain anyways. But just funny that his agent and the Calgary brass both messed it up.

We normally laugh at stuff like this but I'd like a smidgen of Torts's accountability gene here please

Yeah, I saw he had 3 points in his last 14 games after I went to look at his gamelog.

So I get it. I'm sure he wants more offense out of him.

Not sure it’s as much about the player as it is about the culture and managing the room. Thats what torts is best at. Making sure guys are held accountable and everyone knows anyone can be held accountable and then pushing the right buttons to get guys fired up.

Might’ve worked with the flyers up 3-0 on the leafs right now. Then they’ll get a boost when Couturier is put back in with some possible extra energy.
