Does anyone else find it comical fans of other Canadian teams use the "Leafs are only good because they play in a bad division" argument while simultaneously trying to justify their team being better then the Leafs?

Do they miss the glaring deficiency in that argument?

Oh that warped logic that I constantly see is always hysterical.

The Leafs can win the cup this year and the same people will whine how it's apparently an asterix win, and the next sentence will try and argue their teams #4 AHL D man is better than Brodie

Another favourite of mine

Leafs looking at your teams #4 dman or 2nd line winger

"Leafs don't have the pieces to get it done. Nope. Nothing of interest"

They have it all planned out. We cannot win:

1) If Leafs win, its a weak division
2) If we lose, we suck.
3) We win the Cup, its an asterix
4) We lose, we are perennial losers
5) Our star AM34 is a floater and is just lucky being in the right spot and Marner is the driver
6) Our star doesn't score, well he obviously sucks (no mention of Marner now).
7) Our defence sucks - one of the worst in the league
8) Leafs shutout an opponent, its luck and the other team must have been tired that day

Just can't win.

Who cares, winning the Cup is the only thing that matters

Some are almost certainly just trolling.

Others are probably acting out of emotion. They hate the Leafs and thus are predisposed to view us as being terrible. But we're actually good, so cognitive dissonance kicks in, which is uncomfortable. They can either acknowledge that discomfort and accept that we're good or they can contort an argument that justifies why their deeply held opinions about our team are not wrong (i.e. our division sucks). It's easier for their ego to do the latter, so that's what they choose.

Or, to put it very simply, it makes them feel bad to accept that we're good, so they don't.

yea but the top half of that division has some pretty solid teams in it

Who, Pittsburgh? meh.

I think ...
Ottawa > Buffalo
Vancouver = Phili
Calgary = Rangers
Montreal > Boston
Edmonton > Pittsburgh
Winnipeg < Islanders
Leafs > Washington :naughty: :nod:

Matt Martin fought Chara tonight. This is the second time Martin fought Chara

I'll take a Martin over Simmonds anyday. A true throwback type of player
He can still skate and actually throws his weight around

He was overpaid but was a very effective player. Him at 1.5 is better than Joe and Simmonds
