And that's why Florida is getting the hype they are. They believe they can win every game, no matter how deep in a hole they get.

Imagine if that Canes game against Columbus (where we scored 7) happened a few times a month. That'd build some kind of weird confidence in the players that they're always in a position to win.

That's basically been Florida for the last season and a half
They’re the Canes from 05-06. Never felt out of any game regardless of the score. But maybe even deeper on offense and not as solid on D top to bottom.

Yup. I’ll take Lomberg-Luostarinen-Hornqvist over Adams-Adams-Larose any day…

My favorite stat from our Cup year is that Kevyn and Craig Adams both played in all 25 playoff games, and their stat lines were each an identical 0-0-0 at -4. Truly useless. They were both outscored by Cam Ward, who had an assist despite playing 2 less games.

I remember LaRose being pointless for a bit as well to start the playoffs. I also remember K. Adams played with a broken hand/wrist/finger or something to that effect.

Panthers taking it to the Sabres today. If Buffalo plays like this the next two games, the Canes should get the Ws. But I have to imagine their coach will not allow similar performances 3 games in a row.

I'm pretty sure Don Granato will tell his team

"OK boys, I'm disappointed we got beat by the Panthers. Now, normally I'd like us to gear up and go all out for our next game. In this particular circumstance, however, I'd like you to just play like ass for two more games so that the Hurricanes can get some cushion on their division lead. Capiche? OK boys I'm out I have to go to Aldi."

See look here, this is where you are wrong and I'm going to correct you and you should feel shame.

No person connected to WNY will go to Aldi over Wegmans. I know this because transplanted WNYers in my circle love them some Wegmans, so much so they make the trip from Charlotte to Chapel Hill since that's the closest one. They were so excited for that store to open because "It's 30 minutes closer than Raleigh!".

Anyways I am right and you are wrong, or something. :sarcasm:

This reminds me of the first Wegman's opening in Raleigh. It was ridiculous. According to WRAL, folks started lining up a full 12 hours before the doors opened, and when they did, they had over 3,000 people in line.

I went that night after work, probably around 11:00 pm. It was still packed. I don't know if I've ever seen a grocery store that crowded.

Grocery store? Probably not, and I agree living close to the one in Cary/Morrisville.

Grocery store parking lot? Trader Joe's is highly competitive, if only because Trader Joe's seems to seek out the worst parking situation in an area and choose to build their store there.

How the hell do you go grocery shopping at a place 2+ hours away? The only thing you could buy would be dry goods.

I was born and raised in Upstate New York. I didn't move from the state until I was 23.

In NY, there is Wegmans...and there is everything else very far down the list.

Perhaps but with only 14 games left standings begin to crystallize.
It's likely to be so close not just in the Atlantic 2/3/4 race but also us with Florida that is will come right down to the last couple games of the season for the standings to sort themselves out. I wouldn't read anything into what they are right now. Hell if we keep slumping we may not even win the Metro. That's not very likely but what is certain is that things will change in the next several weeks.

Of course. At 67 years old, not my first rodeo. Was just pointing out the current looming situation.

Geez.

Gotcha, and yes if the season ended today we'd draw them in round 1... Fortunately it doesn't as I'd rather play any other team in round 1.
I'd rather play the lightning than the Bruins. They are firing on all cylinders right now while the lightning look beatable. And a bit tired.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind finishing second in the metro and playing either New York or Pittsburgh over any of the other options.

I don't relish playing any of them, but I can come up with good enough reasons we'd beat or lose to any of them. Tampa has played a lot of hockey the last couple of years and we had a lot of close results last year. If Ned doesn't shit himself late in game 1 and the team doesn't have a meltdown in game 4, perhaps things are a little different. But, of course, it's the two time defending champs and they know they can beat us.

Boston looks great right now, but I still don't hate that matchup, and not just because of the results this year. I still think their D is a little suspect, even with Lindholm. Their second line doesn't scare me as much as it used to. Now, are they peaking too early, or are they going to carry that momentum into the playoffs? Their goaltending is a bit of a wild card as well.

Toronto, who the hell knows? They've got some high-end players, but they've got a weird goaltending situation and nobody is too afraid of their defense. You'd think they should be able to win a round eventually, but here we are.

I agree about playing the Pens or Rags, I think we'd easily beat either of those teams in round 1 but I'd much rather win the division and get home ice. My preferences in terms of who I want us to play in round 1:

1. Caps
2. Leafs
3. Bruins
4. Rangers
5. Penguins
6. Lightning

No chance we play Florida in round 1 so I didn't include them. I think we've solved the Bruins and match up very well against them.

Lightning are "beatable/tired" just because they are tuned out of the regular season since they've had a playoff spot locked up. I still think they are the favorite to win it all and would prefer to avoid playing them if possible, let Florida and TB beat each other up before we have to play one of them...

I'd rather play Rags/Pens than the Bruins but the 1 seed is more important to me than matchup so that's why I have them lower.

Leafs are a joke to me, regular season team with terrible goaltending and despite the close losses to them I think we matchup very well against them.

Caps have matched up well against us but I really think they are very clearly the worst team in the playoffs in the East and would be the easiest draw, plus getting them means we would have home ice until the Cup Finals at least.
