agree 100%

EDIT : Removed the LESS IMPORTANT PART of my post since it's the only thing you care about instead of the below part which is my whole point (oh and once more MartyOwns likes a post criticizing me. It's like the Sun rising in the Morning and setting in the evening)

Anyway, regardless....it's a sh-tty situation all-around for the families involved.

I just feel that harping on how someone uses GoFundMe is just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.... :shakehead

by the way, the Devils should absolutely claim Brett Connolly who FLorida waived today

Not a good play-driver, but a fantastic finisher. He legit might walk in and be the best finisher on the team right now.

I'd bring him in and let him play with Hughes or Nico/Bratt and let them drive play. All he's got to do is finish chances

I mean seriously, we DESPERATELY need a wing who can finish in the top 6. He can

Palms is an amazing finisher, we see how he does with just needing to finish chances.

If we wanted him, seems like an opportunity to make Florida include a sweetener to dump the contract. Connolly at 3.5 mil is a decent chunk when guys like Hoffman/Granlund had to settle for their deals. They had to sell Lawson Crouse at a discount to dump Dave Bolland's contract a few years back and they might happily toss in a pick to open up some budget flexibility.

Seems like a good place for this...

I wish I had it on video but one time in my beer league my buddy gets on a breakaway. I'm trailing him but he's a much faster skater, so no chance at making it a 2 on 0. Goalie makes the save and I go to collect the rebound, suddenly my stick gets lifted and it's my teammate who missed the breakaway. He had a total brain fart and I thought I was an opposing defenseman trying to clear the puck, but now he essentially turned into their defense and negated my scoring chance. [/coolstorybro]

Palms is the only "finisher" on the team.

We need another to "finisher" when Palms is on his scheduled vacation.
No I get that, but if that all Connolly is, he's not going to do very well here. I'm sure Florida has players who can pass him the puck, obviously something else is going on and if Palms isn't thriving here, it's safe to assume IMO that Connolly won't either.

99 goals in 512 NHL games is a fantastic finisher?

I mean fine he'll squeeze out 15-20 goals with a regular shift assuming he hasn't completely lost it either (we'd want him gone too if he only had one goal and three points in 14 games for us) but that's hardly enough of an upgrade worth his contract for the next 2.5 seasons.

Yes. He's one of the best finishers 5v5 and it's not like he was playing with super skilled players, either, he mostly played 3rd line minutes and did not play a lot of power play. The Devils should absolutely not take him off waivers and I don't see an obvious trade, but he'd be a good fit.

Maybe in a vacuum, but who comes out? There are already players who are sitting that people want to see play when Nico is back in. You know there are guys that we'd like to see sat who won't, so it would be another young guy who could use the time for a player that finishes well (which for sake of argument we'll assume he still does) and doesn't do much else.

I know you said we shouldn't, just adding the thought in.

Can you? When the last time we signed an impact UFA?

Just saying...

Depends on what you mean by "impact" but if Vatanen isn't impactful enough, then by this logic neither are Lovejoy and Boyle, which brings us right to Cammalleri, who we had bought out.

At any rate, the reason why neither Shero nor Fitz were bringing UFAs other than depth ones was that we aren't contenders yet and longer terms could actually hurt our contention window, while not bringing any benefits because as of now, those UFAs would be the difference between not making the playoffs and maybe a first round exit. And I fully support this logic, when you look at weak to below average teams, when they tried to "accelerate" the rebuild by making panic moves, UFA signings and trades, it backfired quite heavily i. e. Arizona, Buffalo, Vancouver etc.

Vatanen was not signed as a free agent the first time....he was traded for.

Given the circumstances the Sabres are honestly worse than Ottawa, how in the hell did we lose to them 3 times
