I for one am happy I don't have to hear half assed Canuck analysis from all three of those guys. Everytime they spoke, it was crystal clear how little they actually knew/watched games.
This is it for me too.
I dont have anything against Shannon and MacLean. 2 likeable guys who clearly are just not as committed to the inner workings of the teams they cover. It's time for some fresh faces and more informed analysis from people who put in the time.
Never a big fan of Kypreos and all his Leaf centic diatribe. Just disgusting how much monetary interest he kept throwing around about Marner Matthews etc...adios

Markov to return to the NHL. His agent says he wants back in and will play for any of the 31 NHL teams, but his heart is with Montreal. 5 or 6 teams have already shown interest.
He is working out in Florida and his agent has been showing video of him working out to show he still has something to offer an NHL team.
Is he better than Biega or Fantenberg? Oh the curse of that damned cap.

I really wonder if there is market for him at the age of 40 and 2 years removed from the NHL?

Is the league just making fun of itself for all the canned answers that players give?
Poor execution, but I'm down with the premise.

The NHL has always been its own worst enemy when it comes to marketing the game. The product they're trying to sell for the most part is solid and is right up there with the NBA and NFL, except the conservative nature of the game handcuffs their approach to promoting their star players.

You almost never see or hear of any feuds, controversy, drama etc. - nothing that generates storylines in the media. Divisional rivalries are forced. Everyone from Crosby to McDavid repeats the same old tired clichés. Players from a young age are told to shut up and keep their heads down, thus you rarely see anyone who actually has a personality like Subban. Why not let players actually speak their mind for once?

Granted, this is not purely on the NHL as this is more of a grassroots, systemic thing. But at the same time I feel they can still do more to differentiate themselves from the other 2 leagues especially on issues like head injuries, domestic violence, racial equality, womens rights, mental health, support for LGBTQ persons etc. For example, we've never seen a single NHL player come out as openly gay, when statistically it is extremely likely there is at least 1 among such a large sample of professional hockey players.

Taking a more inclusive stand on social issues is more likely to draw support from the non-white, straight male population that has traditionally always been their target demographic. You want to attract a more diverse and larger audience, stop implicitly supporting the macho culture that's been prevalent in every locker room since the dawn of time. Start there and see where it goes. There is no losing here.

i think that's puts hutton up to bat and he signs within 48 hours. he's got to have been waiting to see if he could be the consolation prize for whoever missed out on gardiner.

Gardiner is only 4x4??? -_- I wish we had competent management to be able to sign contracts like that

30 other teams failed to beat that offer.

i can't figure out if he is a victim of wrong place wrong time due to the happenstance of teams' positional needs and cap situations, or whether his defensive liabilities have made the league pass on giving the guy more than 4d money.

Eric Tulsky is the smartest person employed by an NHL team and it's really showing. Carolina has ran circles around other teams over the past 18 months, and that's with Don Waddell as their figurehead.
I guess that gives us some hope... maybe Ryan Biech or someone can start making our Waddell look good.

Carolina's cap structure right now is an absolute masterpiece right now. They have a good young core locked in long term at ridiculous value, only one major RFA re-signing on the horizon (Svechnikov), and have $6.25MM Marleau off after this season/2.3MM in Semin off the books after next, so they can easily go aggressively after an elite talent to blow their window right open for the whole length of the Aho contract.

The work they did getting Pesce, Slavin, and Teravinen under contract at the terms they did is stunning.

Can only guess that his back scared a lot of teams back in July. Probably should have gotten surgery and ended his season in February.

Speculation out of the local media had him at $7x7. Most teams have done their spending. Keeping what is left for their rfa.

Good value deal for Carolina.
