Tampa has about 11 million for Point and several depth guys. Not sure if they could squeeze in Pavelski without finding a new home for Palat or Johnson.

Probably wouldn't be to hard to move those guys. Hell, Im sure the Devils would gladly take 1 lol

I’d be so bitter if I was a Canucks fan . Miller for a first and was it a third as well ?
Good job bailing out TB from cap hell.... what a joke .
Now they might over pay Myers ... how does Benning still have a job ? Way to go and help out the Lightning become even more stacked ....

Benning sucks and always does stupid things. Whether it's overpaying old guys like Eriksson to still compete or a bunch of other dumb moves, including this latest one. There were rumors going back over a year ago before Detroit extended Ken Holland two more years that Vancouver was gonna fire Bennett and hire Holland, who it was speculated that Detroit would let go after the 17-18 season.

I wouldn't worry too much about Tampa though. They were incredibly stacked last year and fell flat on their faces to Columbus in 4 games. They basically disappeared after the 1st period of game 1. And the funny part was after that, it made people overrated Columbus pretty good. ''The Jackets are the real deal! They might sweep another team in this next round!'' and they went out to Boston in 6 and weren't heard from again after having a 2-1 series lead after 3 games and proceeding to lose 3 straight.

Tampa strikes me as the new Washington Capitals, who they also lost to in the ECF last year. I feel like Tampa is already in 2009-2017 Capitals territory after this last playoffs and whatever happened in that series against Columbus.

I Wish our owners would pay $3 million for a 1st round pick

Not sure if you’re serious.

However, it also seems pretty clear that either Shero or ownership has decided they’ll pay for performance, but not for futures. Meaning, the team is willing to trade for players who can deliver for their salary / cap hit (Palms, Mojo, now Subban), but they’re much less interested in trading for a problem contract + picks / prospects (Marleau + 1st, Hossa + Hinistroza, etc.). The only deal where the Devils have used cap space to pick up a bad contract + draft pick was Savard.

I wonder if that changes with Vegas / Clarkson.

Still can't believe Mogilny isn't in the Hall of Fame and Patty didn't get in but Guy Carbon-something(I'm not even going to dignify him by spelling his last name right) does.

Pure Gong-Show-Level shenanigans here.

If this was already posted in the previous thread, my bad.

Price is probably gonna (if healthy) play 65 games again this year. I'm sure that much they're already planning on. So he's probably fine for the 20-22 games they'll expect him to play.

Having a really bad backup in Niemi really hurt them last year though. When you miss the playoffs by one point and don't really even have a serviceable goaltender behind Price, you can pretty much chalk up goaltending to the reason they missed the playoffs last year. Even with Price having a very solid and bounceback season from his putrid 17-18 season at .918% and faring better than all but just a few goalies in lowest percentage of goals I counted stoppable with 40 goals stoppable on 160 allowed. That was under 25% and not the lowest in the league. Fleury, Gibson and Lehner were all lower, but that was a lower percentage than Vasilevskiy by a little bit and Bishop, they still barely had an above league average save percentage. Price also fared very well on many of the advanced goalie statistics that I have nothing to do with. Niemi was a brutal .887% (only 17 games though, but was too much of a liability to play more when they were clinging to a playoff spot) and was utter trash on my eye test. Had him down for 19 goals stoppable on 61 goals allowed, which was 31%+. Niemi was just as far from the league average of goals I counted stoppable in the negative as Price was in the positive.

Lindgren played 1 game and was an .898%. (2 goals I counted stoppable on 5 allowed). I'm guessing they don't see him as an NHL goalie there.

In retrospect Washington might have been better than anyone gave them credit for since they kept losing to Pittsburgh who obviously made a lot of deep runs. Tampa just loses to whomever.

Taking on Clarkson isn't real money though. Insurance pays his salary.

Yeah fair. But, I’m not sure this is a cash issue. It could be, but it could also be that Shero just doesn’t believe in having dead cap.

Teams generally require a lot more compensation if there's real money involved.
