Best hockey ever. The best in the world going at it under NHL rules in an era full of nasty play. Every game was an All-Star game except everyone was out for blood.

This is where Tkachuk became my favorite player and I moved away from basketball and dove into hockey head first. What a tournament.
Yeah, the three games between the USA and Canada in that tournament were some of the best hockey I have ever seen. Skill players showing off their skill, nasty players being nasty, it was great hockey.

Every good story needs a villain. The league needs more Tkachuk's. Players that stir emotion. I have no issue with players like him. No issue when players like him get their ass beat either.

Agree with players that stir emotion. Disagree vociferously on the 'type.' The guy is a spot picker extraordinaire whose antics would have gotten him murdered in a different era, but in this one, he has carte blanche to do whatever he wants with a referee escort.

Keith Tkachuk is my favorite player ever so I love the Tkachuk kids.

Matthew is a rat but I think he is a product of the way the game is played today. If he played in the 90s like his dad, I think he wouldn't be such a hit and run guy.
To be fair though, Keith was labeled by many as a spot-picker back in his day even with solid guys on his fight card since he was a complete ******* on the ice as well. Matthew wishes he could be as proficient with slashes and other fun stuff like his dad. Keith's two-hander on Adam Foote in the 1996 World Cup is just next level ****.

I'd love to have either Matthew or Brady on the Kings. Matthew raises the level of excitement in what has become a very boring NHL. I would have passed on going to the Calgary game last weekend but I didn't want to miss the possibility of him clowning Doughty again.

Was also great to see Brady jump in on that rat Abdelkader last week. I wish all of the power forwards from the 90s could have kids in the league because these types of players are sorely missed.

Now THAT I will agree with. I do see him playing 'like this' in any era, but in this one, he gets diplomatic immunity and it drives me crazy.

Beyond his antics, he's a very very good player, not some plug too.

Someone will most likely pay him that, but in a hard cap world, fair doesn't necessarily mean good. That's the struggle between the individual vs the collective though.

If he does get that 10-11M he wants, he'd be only the 2nd winger since P Kane to crack the 10M mark.

I think the Rangers will go that high, they usually do and NYC is one of the cities Panarin wanted.

He wants 10 - 11 and Bob wants 10M, tough sledding for the Bluejackets.

I couldn't have said it better....mistake IMO.
Huge mistake IMO...I get changing the coach but there had to be someone better out there. Not thinking coach Q would go to Edmonton but really Kitchcock? I guess Kris Russel will get a huge increase in ice time.

Panarin is worth $10M especially with the cap every going up. For easy math lets pretend the cap goes to $80M flat next year, $10M will be 12.5% of a teams Cap. In 07-08 the cap was 50.3M so 12.5% would be 6.2875. I think there were a number of $7M contracts back than so it would be fair.

Yep, said it with the Kopitar contract too...these things equalize in time. Remember when Doughty's 7M seemed like it was insanity? Then Subban got 9...

But I also agree with @AnThGrt that 'fair' =/= good, it's a tough bind.

Sure glad EDM selected Hitch. I thought they might actually hire a good coach and compete next year. I’m also hoping they keep Chiarelli for another decade. Heks the real reason why they’re where they’re at.

if they do not make the playoffs their GM will be gone as will Hitch. The agreement for Hitch is just till the end of the year right now so could not impact next year

What's the one thing that everyone is saying about EDM, they can't play defense, they need defensive help...well they hired one of the best defensive coaches in the game....you will see them turn it around....

The issue I have is that Hitchcock's style does not seem to fit in with the way the game is played now. If you look at his past teams do tend to get a hitchcock boost and it would not surprise me if the oilers do and even make it into the playoffs this year, however I do not think he is a long term solution.

Long term solution in his league is 3 years......so...sure.

With how bad the pacific division is, and the state of EDMs roster, the only hope they may have is trying to play 3-2 hockey.

Looks like the central will send 5 teams to the playoffs, so I don’t think EDM can beat out SJ, VGK and CGY.
