Jones is brutal, why is he off the post there?

You just know if this goes to OT they're not going to call anything.

If we trade Wheeler before July 1st like some posters are proposing then just trade for Labanc and play him in that Wheeler spot on the PP.

I’m surprised Burns was out for that empty net situation. He’s been getting sheltered pretty much this entire game.

It’s s crosscheck to the face plus whatever Stastny does. It’s basically an automatic suspension, even in playoffs, and should be a major.

It's only a major because Stastny threw him to the ice. What Stastny did was far more dangerous than the crosscheck from Eakins.

The crosscheck itself was at collar level, Stastny interferes with Pavelski which doesn't let him brace himself.
The NHL is actually pretty transparent about how they judge the severity of penalties that are at the discretion of the referees. To give a major the player on the receiving end basically needs to be injured, Pavelski getting injured was more a result of Stastny's interference, but it was initiated by Eakins' crosscheck.

Here’s the replay:

It’s a crosscheck, but not to the face. Stastny was already moving to Pavelski’s area and essentially extended his arms to protect himself. Really the only problem was that Pavelski was put in a position where he couldn’t brace himself and unfortunately it was his head that hit the ice first.

Not sure it’s a major.

It's definitely questionable, but the NHL determines severity of penalties based on whether the player is injured as a result. It doesn't matter where the crosscheck lands. Pavelski doesn't get injured at all if Eakins doesn't crosscheck him and that's really all that matters to me.

He was suspended for crosschecking Staal in the head standing up pretty much in the ear. Get real.

What Eakin did is way more dangerous powering out of a squat with a crosscheck to the head/neck area. He literally sends him airborne with an illegal check. Stick makes first contact with Pavelski’s shield, follow through is a bit lower. Wouldn’t be surprised if Eakin gets another playoff game or a couple regular season games if they lose.

In the playoffs? That should have been a 2-minute interference or roughing penalty, nothing more. It's probably the worst call in the playoffs in over a decade. Might cost Vegas the series.

You don't call a penalty on results alone.
