I added this to the last thread right before it closed; reposting here.

NYR beating NYI in OT last night hurts.

Rangers are breathing down our necks and have the tiebreaker firmly in hand. We absolutely need to secure some points on Friday night and hope that Montreal and Flyers can beat Rangers in regulation on Thursday and Friday.

Luckily Columbus lost last night to Wild and play them again on Friday. With all of their injuries I believe they will fall out and wild card race will come down to us, NYR, NYI/PHI, and FLA/TOR.

Philly is no longer in the wildcard conversation. The 3 Metro teams look to be about set to me.

I’D PREFER THERE NOT BE LOSER POINTS BECAUSE THEY ARE f*ckING UP OUR CHANCES TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS

IF THERE WERE NO LOSER POINTS THERE WOULD BE NO OVERTIME OR SHOOTOUT DRAWS. AND CANES HAVE TEN WINS OUTSIDE OF REGULAR SIXTY MINUTES.

This is a cutout of standings of the 5 teams in Metro that are battling it out under the assumption, there is no loser point because there is no overtime.

Flyers 26 RW - 52 points + 17 draws = 69 points
Islanders 24 RW - 48 points + 18 draws = 66 points
Blue Jackets 23 RW - 46points + 22 draws = 68 points
Hurricanes 25 RW - 50 points + 14 draws = 64 points
Rangers 29 RW - 58 points + 9 draws = 67 points

Believe it or not, Canes like the existence of loser points, because it allows them to gain the second point from OT or SO.

Maths vs feelings.

BET ON MATHS.

Removing the loser point doesn't mean you have to remove the winner point.

FAIR ENOUGH.

However, what's the point of regulation and overtime having different ruleset then? I can imagine a comparison with let's say basketball, but overtime in basketball doesn't change the number of players on ice. And five minute overtime period is also relatively largely given the different size of regular game time.

To be completely honest, I am in support of IIHF format, with 3 points for RW, 2 for OTW, 1 FOR OTL.

What would the standings look like with that format?

PHI 26 RW 10 OTW 7 OTL =78+20+7=105
NYI 24/11/7=72+22+7=99
CBJ 23/8/14=69+16+14=99
CAR 25/10/4=75+20+4=99
NYR 29/5/4=87+10+4=101

If anyone hates loser points and RW being worth the same as OTW or STW it's Rangers.
