Apparently Foligno is nursing a back injury and might struggle to return full strength this year

Tough night for the CBJ with the Jones news, but you want to see a freak out, go to the TML board on Monday night if they crap the bed against the Habs...

Only saw a few highlights of the Avs game but wow that top line gives great support to going through a rebuild(known to some as tanking) although Rantanen was taken 10th in the draft.

Just a week ago the “retool” argument was supported, via evidence against a rebuild, by the Oilers getting swept.

So we have evidence to support both approaches. Almost like every situation is unique.

It is pretty remarkable how the Avs are built. They are one of the worst depth drafting teams in the entire NHL, possibly the worst.

From the 2010 draft onward they've only got

Landeskog (2nd in 2011)
Mackinnon (1st in 2013)
Rantanen (10th in 2015)
Makar (4th in 2017)

Beyond that, Jost is a decent bottom six guy that they drafted in 2016, and they also drafted Will Butcher, a bottom pair guy that ended up in New Jersey. There are no other NHLers that they've drafted in that span, just those 6. In that same span the Jackets have drafted 16 guys that have already played more games than the 7th guy on the Avs list, and that doesn't include Texier and Bemstrom and so on who aren't old enough yet.

The Avs basically traded for depth and signed support players to fill out the rest of their roster. And with their super elite core, that's been enough.

So we have evidence to support both approaches. Almost like every situation is unique.

For sure. Most good teams are not built that way!

Looking forward to my drive into work tomorrow and listening to Gord Stellick and Scott Laughlin break this TML choke job down.
