Iginla signing in Edmonton would 100% tarnish hs reputation as a Flame. If someone traded him there, fine but freely sign a s a UFA? That is a slap in the face to flames fans everywhere and he could go **** himself.

So a guy who's done so much for the Flames and Calgary not just as a player but as a person is suddenly hated because he went to play for a rival, his decision? Seriously let's not get playing for a team tarnish his reputation as a player and person overall, especially since he didn't mean harm playing for Edmonton (Besides that's yet to happen anyways and there is no guarantee it will happen), so let's not even worry about it completely...

I'd say it'd be something similar to what happened with Ference.

I don't think you fully understand the hatred between our fan bases

It's a slap in the face to the fans if he does. You spend your almost all of your hall of fame career as the face of the franchise to only willingly sign with their most hated rival. Wasn't it Peter Forsberg that refused to sign within the Avs division out of respect for the fans?

Frankly if Iginla signs with Edmonton as a UFA, he can **** off. He doesn't deserve to have his number retired honored or anything, ever.

Eh, Ference wasn't here that long and IMO wasn't even a great player for us but even he went from being loved to hated. With Iginla it would be 10x worse, we worshiped the guy, he was a god to most of us.

Iggy grew up in the 80s and he was an Oilers fan, so he probably remembers the hate between the two fanbases when it was at it's very peak. I doubt he signs here just as that hate is rekindling again. I won't lie, it would hurt seeing him in an Oilers jersey and the boos would ring around the Dome for him.

I wouldn't hate him though; I would just be completely indifferent towards him

Yup agree fully. Ference is a good idea of what can happen. But yes, Iggy's fall would be far worse. IF Iggy signs in Edmonton, I'd be willing to think that it literally was his only option to chase a cup, including not being given an option to come chase it here.

Weirdly though, Russell is less than Ference. Maybe because he's set up like the perfect lynch pin to send wheels flying off at the most inopportune moment?

Ference didn't do as much good for the team or community. Still I can't hate the guy. He made the Oilers worse as a player but did so much charity for the Edmonton community. Very amazing guy. Ference, Girardi, both Kanes, Seguin, etc. are major reasons why I don't believe supernatural karma exists. Just look at how much good both defenseman do for their community and team (Well in terms of leadership, not actual play haha) and then look at the vice versa.

I think Russell gets a bit of a pass because he signed literally at the last moment and most of us believed he wanted to re-sign with the Flames but due to Gaudreau's contract situation it dragged on far too long and by that point Edmonton may have been his only option to get a decent contract and to be frank, even with how much I liked Russell, he was never a fan favorite like Ference and especially not like Iggy.

I wouldn't blame Iginla if he signed with the Oilers if it was the only team that was willing to sign him. But if there's options out there, it would change the way I look at him for sure. It would kind of be on the lines of if Ryan Smyth actually came and played for the Flames when they were trying to sign him.

Does anyone remember back in the day when the Flames got both Steve Smith and Grant Fuhr? That was just weird and I didn't really know how to feel about that. It was hard to cheer for either of them for sure.

That's a decent lineup. I like that there ends up being about $3mill to play with in salary. Leaves some flexibility for a trading through the season.

Yeah, it felt wrong to have them on the team. Even Gelinas and Brathwaite were a bit weird at first, as did Morrison but unlike Smith and Fuhr, Morrison won me over.

Yeah Morrison was a good pick up. Bertuzzi was another on that had me scratching my head.

I don't hate any of this... I doubt that's all it takes to get Dell but it's a nice looking lineup

Oilers fan coming here in peace. Came to see the talk about Spencer Foo.

But regarding Josh Marshall? Eklund wannabe, don't waste your time.

And I thought you were here to tell us Hamonic was an offensive defenseman
