I love that I'm not the only one who thought "look at the street signs" on the question of knowing what Valley city you are in.

The land in question was where they used to take the old telephone poles, so the top soil will be heavy with creosote.

The top layer will have to come out, below that is where it gets interesting/weird. Going back 80 years ago a lot of that was used as a dump, so they might have to dig out 20 feet of trash before they hit the alluvial plane.

Most arenas are already built into the ground. But as you said the issue will be what they find while excavating.
