Admittedly slightly surprised.
Grabner still has it, or at least some it.
ARI needed to shed cap somehow though and I guess this buys them a little.
Who cares about AAV. AZ also has Hossa’s $5.25M they can place on LTIR. This move Saves $2.5M in actual cash which is the important thing.
Yup.Grabner still has the wheels and is an excellent penalty killer. He also had 17 goals in 87 games over two seasons in Arizona. Seven of those goals were short handed. I'd take him on the Flyers in a heartbeat.
They owe him $832K this year. Over a million the following year. From a cash flow perspective this was a no-brainer.I don't think it saves them that much actual cash. The cost is 2.5M in cash and they save 1.25M i believe.
AZ had to overpay to add talent to the forward group and get secondary scoring. They had plenty of cap space at that time, cash was backloaded. It wasn't a terrible deal. He did what I expected minus the injuries.Just like the draft, you really roll the dice with these UFA's.
They must be clearing space to bring in the new captain Loui Eriksson.
He's 32...wow time flies.
But yes, he skates like the wind, kills penalties, and isn't completely useless with the puck. If he was bigger/more physical he'd be an ideal bottom six forward...and also likely not bought out.
I hope Dallas looks at Grabner as a Perry replacement.
They just bought him out so he has no salary. HE will be a UFA and can be signed for whatever he wants
Good decision, and one Chayka probably wouldn't do.
Come back to NYI for league minimum.
Would be an useful addition to our bottom-6.
