There's no island in Arizona...Josh Bailey's clone looks very nice for Arizona. I await him to come to the island in 3 years.
Well maybe we just saw the same thing!Hah, are you sure you're not me? I could've written that comment..
Players are probably hard pressed to sign 7-8 year deals with the Coyotes without serious overpay.3 years is a mistake, this guy is the real deal
It's not that whatsoever.
the Coyotes had Macelli in a specific bargaining position. They chose to make it a 3 year one. That's a weird ass decision.
Normal teams sign him to a 1-2 year deal to see if it's real or a mirage. Then back up the Brinks truck.
Disagree. Since this is OT, suffice to say there were some doubts give EPs pouting that year and now we’re set up to give him his long term deal just before the cap rises (though Benning didn’t know that). In contrast If Hughes wants to leave (not saying he does) he’ll be UFA in a few years. And that bridge deal was a very obvious and clear mistake by Jim Benning.
That's the issue. Macelli had a really promising rookie season. If he breaks into star status, he will be getting an extreme bag on his next contract. A 3 year bridge prevents the Coyotes from building in any cost-savings when they might potentially be competitive.

He will be RFA in summer 2026 at 25 with arbitration rights, two years left to UFA eligibility and a QO of $4.11M. I don't think that is a bad position for ARI to negotiate an extension in 2026 at all. Maccelli probably will not choose to limp into UFA by accepting two 1x$4.11M QOs, and there being two years to UFA eligiblity also makes him opting for salary arbitration a non-optimal solution as the team gets to choose the contract length (=one year).the Coyotes had Macelli in a specific bargaining position. They chose to make it a 3 year one. That's a weird ass decision.
The Canucks are staring at a situation where Petey, if he wanted to, can just take his case to arbitration and then walk to UFA a year later. That is the situation the Benning bridge deal left the Canucks in. They have no leverage now. And they need to commit to a huge raise to Petey at the same time the club wants to take the next step - you'd much rather have him locked up now.Disagree. Yep. It just doesn't make sense to build in the biggest cost-savings when the club isn't competitive, only to have to give him a big raise at the moment the club wants to turn it around.Exactly. It's giving them some potential savings over the next few years, but it doesn't allow them to wrap those years into a long-term deal to bring the cost of that down, for those seasons where the Coyotes are theoretically angling to be competitive.
Matias Maccelli has played 87 NHL games.Players are probably hard pressed to sign 7-8 year deals with the Coyotes without serious overpay.
damn, there goes my beach front property... are you sure? There's no island in Arizona...
Should’ve won the lottery for 2nd overall last draft.I wish they could ice a line of him, Carcone, and some other Italian sounding center.

Maccelli-Fantilli-Carcone
60 points pace is not a point per game player. Thinking he'll hit 100 is a stretch. I don't even think Keller could hit 100.best contract in the NHL
pretty much a ppg player, who is just 23, for 3 years with 3,4 mill AAV... crazy
wouldn't surprise me at all if he'd get 90-100 points next or season after that.
