Kasdorf didn't have to start. He gets the NHL play check sitting on the bench. He certainly didn't earn his start.
very different situation. He comes out of college and can be a UFA in August, cant go to the AHL unless he signs a contract for next year and then a PTO in Rochester.
He signs an NHL contract he makes about 1/10 of his salary~to an AHL salary. He plays an NHL game. Doesn't see why that is even relevant.
Earning an NHL pay check--guess you could say that about the 14th forward on a team always sitting in the press box.
Makarov did get his opportunity. He had his moments where he played very well.
Historically speaking, goaltending is the ONE position that the Sabres have developed well. Buffalo has developed a NUMBER of goalies that have had decent careers either here in Buffalo or elsewhere.
Makarov had a chance to prove himself in Rochester and didn't. He never earned a shot at the net in Buffalo.
One area---how????
Buffalo traded for Hasek (1992--by trade)
They drafted Miller in the 5th round he came through (1999 pick)
Enroth was picked 2nd round in 2006
traded for other goalies and then there was Biron.
recently Buffalo has regularly drafted goalies taking one each year from 2011-2014.
