I predict a massive increase in attendance from the 2020-21 season and the team will take that as a sign they are doing things right.

If I plunked down hundreds of millions of dollars, the least of all things I'd want is yearly briefing on what my scouts think is going to happen at the draft. Hopefully I'd know better than to interfere, but you'd damn well believe I want to see some of the sausage being made.

Hell, I'd want to be in the draft room watching things unfold just b/c it fascinates me.

Damned straight I'd stay out of any important decisions, but I'd want to be in the room for big decisions.

Articles like that make me wonder if the Pegulas are actually losing money on the Sabres or if it's just accounting/paper losses.

Being able to depreciate the purchase price of a sports franchise doesn't make any sense to me

I’m not an accountant, but IIRC from college 35 years ago, the goodwill portion of a purchased asset (brand recognition, logos, patents, copyrights, etc. ) can be amortized.

Yes, it can. (10 years I think?)

Also, yes, I am almost certain that the Sabres losses are likely only paper. It is FAR too easy to do, even at a smaller scale.

I am sole owner of an LLC that I setup years ago for consulting work I used do to. I haven't done anything with it for years, as my current employer has strict rules, and it's just not worth the hassle. My accountant every years points out that if I did certain things through the LLC, perfectly legally, I could shave significant sums off my PERSONAL tax bills.

It's a very messed up system.

They want 1.5 billion for a new Bills stadium and Key Bank renovations from taxpayers and to pay 0.00 dollars themselves. To give them a building where they can make millions and millions in profits

Sounds like your average pro sports owners in North America.

I don’t think any billionaire owner anywhere has ever proposed zero dollars of their own money.

giving a billion dollars to a billionaire for their billion dollar franchise is ridiculous.

You would be wrong.

The NFL has gotten all sorts of sweetheart deals like that all over the US.

0% chance they contribute no money.

I detailed this in the Bills thread, they will contribute at least $200M of their own money to take advantage of the NFL's G4 program, which is a matching $200M loan. The payback of that loan comes from money they are obligated to pay the league anyways, making it effectively free money. They won't pass that up.

It's their starting offer so they cam come down and act like they gave some ground. It's honestly hilarious; it's a pretty basic tactic that one uses which is comical to think will be effective with the State of New York.

I think it's hilarious that KBC is almost as decrepit and outdated as The Ralph yet doing anything about it is almost an afterthought.

Well, duh. You don't get to be a billionaire by spending your own money.

Socialism for the rich, and capitalism for everyone else. That's the American Way™.
