It's my dirty secret that I prefer the All Blacks over the Wallabies! Not because they're so successful but due to the way they play and conduct themselves on and off the field.

Although actually NZ hasn't done better than us as far as coronavirus is concerned. They imposed an even stricter lockdown than we did but, while their total case numbers have been lower, per head of population our numbers are actually slightly better. Regardless, fair to say that both countries have been tracking incredibly well so far.

The fact that so many people have bought into how the media is “the problem”...

Without a media...however you feel about it’s collective politics...what the hell do we have to push back on someone who, a week or two ago, had become convinced he had “total authority”?

Trump’s sparring with the media isn’t just in the moment, one off events. It’s a calculated and intentional move (one of many) to get people to stop trusting everyone else and give total trust to him. He also has the advantage of a network which almost completely tows his line and to which the majority of the right side of the aisle has pledged their unwavering allegiance.

For Christ’s sake, his family refers to Republican senators and other politicians that oppose even a single viewpoint as members of “the resistance”.

Yes, the media highlighted Trump’s out loud speculation of bleach being injected into someone’s veins. Because the “leader of the free world”, with no medical expertise whatsoever, thought it was a good idea to speculate (and then lie claiming to be “sarcastic”) about injecting disinfectant into people. You can try to pin it on the media, but the media is the messenger. It would be a tragedy if they did not call attention to it. Never, ever, ever should a sane person with the power of POTUS have thought it was a good idea to talk like he did at that podium. That wasn’t just a mistake. That was a symptom of someone who personifies narcissism like no one has ever seen. Complete and utter lunacy that one could look to something or someone else to blame for consequences from it.

80 percent of workers would not feel safe if their state reopened now, survey reveals

Continuing a thread on human confidence. All data points to being anything but a V shaped rebound. This ties in well with the study I posted earlier in the month from MIT and the Federal Reserve that pointed to the areas that reacted the most, committing earlier and longer to social distancing measures, saw the fastest rebound in employment and bank assets.

It’s all the marshmallow test.

I’d be interested to see the data state by state data when we’re on the “other side” of this...on the whole will MA and MI be more confident because the measures taken were more aggressive and therefore the “all clear” feels more genuine than some of the others who brush it off and therefore rebound quicker like in 1918? We’ll see.

The mental gymnastics required to place the blame anywhere other than DT for his statements on "treatments" is Olympic gold worthy.

I don't even watch the news but the clips I have seen on Twitter looked like they ridiculed what he said then brought in a medical expert to tell you why it was a stupid idea.

If anything the media in this case probably dissuaded some people who may have just taken the presidents word for it.

my cousins son died 7 weeks ago. 37 years old Was feeling a little under the weather. But otherwise never sick a day in his life. Went to work and keeled over. Stroke. We think may be this.

Its opposite of ebola. Where that thins blood out so much you bleed out from everywhere. This stuff clots it everywhere.
Helluva bug.
Wally so sorry about your cousins son...horrible. Scary.

The media assisted in Trumps rise, they should take a long look in the mirror bc their actions have consequences

https://www.washingtonpost.com/life...3d4366-865b-11e6-a3ef-f35afb41797f_story.html

Donald Trump has earned $2 billion in free media coverage, study shows

If simply giving Trump air time assists in his rise as someone who plays on people’s prejudices and fears to con them into thinking he is out to help “the working American” left behind by people just like him...then the media is simply revealing a deep problem in this country. They are not “causing” anything that wasn’t already there.

Are you suggesting the media don’t give air time to people they don’t want to see become President? Pretty sure that would leave you outraged...

As awful as it is, a television star trust fund baby running a Presidential campaign all while shouting words of ignorance in front of crowds of cheering supporters is newsworthy.

I think their was an angle behind giving him a platform. He got a lot of support as he berated other Republicans.

"It is irresponsible to root for Trump to get closer to the presidency if you think he's bad for the country

Some liberals and Democrats are pro-Trump because they think Donald Trump would be a better president than the other Republicans pursuing the nomination for president. (Those people include Vox's Matt Yglesias.) But many liberals and Democrats are pro-Trump because they think he's a weaker candidate in the general election than, say, Marco Rubio, and therefore his nomination makes it more likely that Hillary Clinton (or even Bernie Sanders) will be the 45th president of the United States."

Trying to sabotage Republicans by supporting Trump is a very bad idea

The media is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Trump is a reality tv star and was shrewd enough to identify the weaknesses in media and exploit them and in turn, weaponize the news.

In reality, Trump is running the country like the head of the Mob. He has enough money and friends in high places who have been able to dig into certain people's pasts and use what he finds as leverage over them. If someone criticizes him, he tosses them out and then smears them every chance he gets. Just look at the 180 Lindsey Graham has done in the past 4 years. Look at how cowardly Mitch McConnell looks. Both are shells of themselves.

Could you at least get a current article to back up your points? A lot has changed since this story was posted.

The lack of oversight is alarming yet par for the course. When the hell did accountability become a bad thing?

It feels like there's a new super-symptom every week.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I can kind of understand why conspiracy theorists think this thing was made in a lab

Sad that people buy into the right wing talk radio conspiracies, it was animal to human.

Rumor Buster: Why is accusation that COVID-19 virus originates in lab false, wrong? - Xinhua | English.news.cn

"This virus is clearly part of the coronavirus family tree. It is close to Sars-CoV-1, with which it has 80 percent homology," he explained.
"Above all, the same virus is found in different animals, in particular the pangolin and the bat. And there, the percentage of similarities is greater than 95 percent. So, by drawing up the family tree of this virus, we know that it is derived from viruses that circulate in nature," he said. Enditem

I'm hoping all of these stories about large corporations getting max (and more) PPP money the first time arounds ends up having an impact on how the big banks handle these loans this time - we're still waiting to hear back on our request, and it was only a little over 70k (filed the Sunday after the initial period opened up, as soon as BoA opened up the application process).

Sucks being a small fish in a big pond when there appears to be incredibly insufficient oversight.

Obviously one would go first to a Chinese source for this information.

Xinhua honestly would be my last source on trusted news from China.

Xinhua News Agency - Wikipedia

At any rate real scientists not working for the Communist Party of China have not ruled out the possibility of being manufactured.
