A thousand miles from nowhere
This whole toilet paper thing seems crazy to me

Lots of things are crazy. There should be a thread just on things like this.

We went grocery shopping at 8:00am and there were maybe 20 cars in the parking lot, very quiet. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies but little frozen except for Brussel sprouts...lol No paper products at all...toilet paper, paper towels or tissues.

We live in Mennonite country and Sunday usually brings lots of horses and buggies going to church. We didn't see one today....weird because I thought they would ignore the warnings. They don't believe in vaccinations either, they have been the cause of outbreaks of whooping cough in the last few years.

Didn't Italy have a day last week where it trended down as well then immediately spiked the next day?

Really have to hope it's good news though.

It’s easier to predict (and more accurately) peak times based on timing of safety measures and how strict they are, rather than testing which is inconsistent in its application. Not to mention, some results take hours to come in and others take days to weeks.

I read something (I really should be able to cite the source) that said northern Italy will peak the 23rd to the 25th and southern (sheltered later) a few days later.

The biggest focus for me right now is how countries deal with lifting restrictions. For at least the next year, they’re not going to be able to go back to 100% normalcy I would think. Essentially, you need people to keep getting infected albeit at a slow rate so you can keep hospitals and the healthcare system functioning while also building immunity within the population and avoiding vulnerable people.

If we listen to the experts...between precautions and medical advances...we are going to make unprecedented progress in the next calendar year I think. People like my step father (a science guy who is not optimistic in the present but is long term) thinks that we still have a chance at eradicating this in a matter of years. I’m not sure I can believe that (we’ve eradicated two viruses ever and it took hundreds to thousands of years) but I’ll have hope.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo calls for a plan to reduce social density in New York City in 24 hours, calling group activities "wholly inappropriate." "This is not life as usual. None of this is life as usual... this is just a mistake." https://abcn.ws/3dqY6DJ

Random thought, but if I'm not mistaken, the Bruins didn't even get to take their official team photo yet this year, did they?

day 2 of our self quarantining , boring as all get out but....

Still some who truly aren`t taking this seriously, have a neighbor who we were yakking with from our patio and telling him that we have to self quarantine and he said something like "yeah that`s just bull****" , went on to say or ask who`d know if we didn`t and our response was nobody but that isn`t the point

I`d rather lead a boring and somewhat cooped up life and be safe for ourselves and potentially others than make selfish decisions

Be safe out there friends. Up to just being laid off, I have worked in the restaurant biz for 30 years where constant hand washing is common practice but even at the airport, watching different travelers use the washroom, then race out the door without doing the same was shocking

Another thing, as I know there are a few here who are also in recovery or have loved one`s in recovery and we returned with the news that all AA/NA/CA meetings have been cancelled. There are online meetings all the time and many local chapters of AA/NA have opportunities to take part in online meetings with their local groups, we jumped on a meeting last night put on by some of our friends back in Halifax

Please remember our recovery CANNOT stop because of this, here is what the online site in Halifax looks like, your area should have the same set up

15% decline in new cases and 18% decline in deaths in Italy
It's Sunday. They are also overrun in the North so many likely aren't getting to the hospital. Positive news but the trend is what matters most. Bergamo has a 3x increase in deaths in March on a YoY basis despite the lockdown but only 31% of the delta is being attributed to Covid-19 because they aren't testing the others post mortem. Read this last night on a reputable source - Reuters of one of the others - don't have the url handy but can check and share. Same thing happening in France right now - they are not including any deaths outside of the tested ER cases so all those passing away at home or in nursing homes, or even untested aren't part of the statistics. Get's my blood boiling as they all know but aren't sharing the real impact so people can get their heads on straight and confine and maintain distancing in the coming weeks.

Reminds me a bit of early 20th century politicians sending people to the front as fodder like in Paths of Glory. They know, they don't tell, nor give options. Really frustrating to see $10 an hour people working the aisles in the grocery stores while people like me in white collar jobs have had remote work order since well before the lockdown. My wife isn't in the same situation as she is front line every day. This situation really shines a light on the imbalance in our society.

Sorry for the diatribe - back to scheduled programming ;-)

Maybe someone can answer this for me. Has there been any talk about what happens after we all self isolate.

Most specialist are saying we can contain but once we stop self isolating it will repeat itself.
