They weren't talking about Mitchell not signing this year, they were talking about him not signing at all and going UFA. If true, they need to be on top of this ASAP and trade him while they still have rights. I'd imagine the reason he wouldn't want to sign here is because of the D logjam.
I commented on this in a different thread, but I was watching this broadcast live and I did not catch that they were talking about him going UFA. It was all about staying for 4 due to his commitment to the program and his teammates, academics, etc. I may have missed something, but I highly doubt it. And even those guys who do go for 4 to be a UFA, no one (especially not college broadcasters) actually says that’s why they are staying.

Put 2+2 together dude. If he's staying 4 years he's going UFA.

Would you guys package Saad and
Mitchell for Dougie Hamilton+ if there really is risk of him going UFA?

here is a question, if that other team who is willing to make a trade for Mitchell, do you know that they wouldn't know if Mitchell will go UFA and not sign..... so why would they want to trade for him ??

Don’t make him the main piece. GMs think a lot of stuff. They’d have two years to court him. Just recoup the pick and move on if he’s not going to sign this summer. Carolina had Adam Fox included in the Hanifin/Lindholm deal and Fox was entering his senior year and Carolina already had a crowded blueline at the NHL level but they still think they’ll sign him.

From Scott Powers' latest Blackhawks prospect rankings:
"This is a good year for Chad for him to develop the maturity of his game. I think Chad's on track. I think he's played enough college hockey." -Mark Kelley

Unofficial confirmation that Krys will be signed this year. Kelley implies it.

Also alluded to Galvas being close to signing.

With these things makes me want to see them at the deadline make some decision or get some value out of some D. Would help to make a choice on Forsling or Dahlstrom. Or Gus if that value is so high

Forsling is definitely gone. I think the org likes Gus and wouldn't move him unless they got a really compelling offer. Dahlstrom can be re-signed for cheap. For AHL, Campbell and Davidson won't come back.

Dahlstrom upside? Ever be a 2nd pairing guy?

Or likely just 7th dman/ahl guy?

He's already a #5/6 stay at home type, but I don't see him becoming much more than that. Maybe he becomes a #4 guy once he gets enough experience, but he lacks offensive skills and speed, so his upside isn't all that high IMO.

while i am not employed by the org or in other words i am a fan and of course a limited knowledge of the coaches look for.

so with ref to you point, i see like most of these posters as Dahlstrom as a defensive specialist. so will the org pair him up with a offensive skill. i don't know but i believe that is what will happen. so yeah i can envision him as a second pairing with the right partner.
