Shouldn't the stadium be facing the other way, so as to get a view of the water and the downtown skyline?

Totally agree. Id have it face west so you can see both the skyline and the Mount.

I'm all for assistance to help bring a team back, I hope all three levels of government chip in.

I’ll let them all now.

Otherwise, let them stop spending on all other sports and cultural projects and let the Big O crumble while they’re at it.

It's not unfair since neither team has an advantage. It's similar to how hitters have an advantage due to altitude when playing in Colorado, or how some stadiums are smaller then others. So long as both teams have the same conditions it's fair.

Okay, so to you, with teams having shit conditions is better than both teams having good conditions? Where's the logic? The view of downtown is more important than the game the fans are watching?

That's gonna be an aftergame traffic nightmare.

YOu'd have to see the plans with the new Champlain bridge and the new highway infrastructure built around it. Plus access via the new train system, organizing dedicated lanes for bus shuttle service for the games like they do for the Alouettes downtown. A quick walk from the closest metro as you paper bag your beer would be awesome in the summer.

I really don't see a problem. The advantage of having a stadium downtown is that you don't need to take your car to the stadium. Even for the Habs games, we park south of Notre-Dame on Guy Street and walk up. Same will happen for the baseball games. At least, for those, fans won,t be battling snow storms.

I'll chip in with a mini season ticket if they get that kind of package out. Or split one with a friend or two. I'd definitely buy 162 games if we could use them for any game and bring groups of 5, 10, 15 or 20 at a time on those tickets, until the 162 games are spent.

I'd take my entire department at work out for a game, no problem.

Sports teams are not "projects" they're businesses owned by billionaires. They can pay for their own damn stadium.

And they are. Bronfman and co. are on record saying as much. How much were both level of govts on the hook for, in the Videotron Centre project? Cause as far as I know, it's a project, it doesn't really have a major paying tenant now, does it? Some "business" venture.

They shouldn't be on the hook for anything. Force the people who will profit from the team to pay for their own stadium or don't build it.

What I'm saying is that it doesn't provide an unfair advantage since both teams have the exact same advantages/disadvantages.

Personally I doubt it would have that big of an impact on the game, the games would be a little lower scoring then average just like some places are a little higher scoring then average. The bigger issue with the sun would actually be the fans. If the sun is in the batter's eye, it would be in the eyes of the fans sitting behind home plate, so that seems like a more valid reason to change the orientation as you don't want a bunch of fans to not see well.

The Videotron Centre is a disaster and if I'm not mistaken, Péladeau had made a deal with the govt that if the building were empty, the govt would have to foot the bill. Some business deal.

Anyway, we're all in agreement that businesses should pay their own way as a general rule. When the govt does choose to lay out funds, there ought to be a clear path to a ROI or no funds go out.

How many million in taxes does a whole team bring in? At least Legeault caught on to that contrarily to others in the past.

Legault's business background coming in handy.

what are they up to here?

Click Here>Olympic Stadium roof replacement delayed until 2024 | CBC News

The possibility of making the third roof retractable once again is under study, Landry said.
Exposing the field to sunlight would allow real grass to grow there under optimal conditions.
"Our specialists are seriously looking into this solution to see if it is technically feasible, and at what cost we can do it," said Landry. Staying on budget is critical, however, he said.

''We have to keep Mr. Taillebert's design, absolutely. It's his signature.''
Proulx said the goal is also to make sure the stadium can be used year-round. Right now, it must be closed for security reasons anytime more than three centimetres of snow accumulates on the roof.
Being able to keep it open all the time would be a ''game changer,'' said the borough mayor of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Pierre Lessard-Blais.

What a nightmare that thing is. They should be looking to finding a cheaper way to implode it.

I get the feeling there goona
1.put a new roof on it
2.grow grass (why do this ??)
3.revamp the place inside....

4. Pitch it as Expos new home ??lol

Gerkan, Marg and Partners (GMP), a German company that specializes in constructing stadiums, has been working with RIO officials to figure out the best solution. GMP is behind several major stadium projects around the world, including BC Place in Vancouver.

Don't know about Colisee but for the new Videotron Centre Quebecor splits 50/50 deficits with the city up. Building a new arena when you have no long term commitment from a major tenant is silly.
Not against some support/relief but any potential owner owner better have a lot of skin in the game too.

Would prefer to see Big O retrofitting money for 3-4 games World Cup games to go instead towards some form of assistance to this project.
