The Big O is goona be totally redone...just intime for a return of the Expos in 2024...When people get the first tour ,the jaws will drop at how nice it looks.. then the talk will begin ...IMHO

Just look at the Oilers new building..built in a dumpy part of the city..then they totally remade that area..new condos /skyscraper office buildings /restaurants...multi billion dollar developments...etc....

Big O is a shithole like the Cinema Theater right next to it. Nobody wants to drive there, bunch of crackhouse next to it

Problem is, it's not just the stadium that needs a major pimp job. It's like trying to pimp out a trailer trash hoe, only, you have to pimp up her whole family and neighborhood too

what have we heard in the past ? a billion dollar to tear it down?lol
And seeing the gov't talks that it iconic like the Iffel Tower??? that ain't goona happen(tearing it down)

So the case can be made $700 million to redo it over..Have it last another 35 years? :)

Have you driven on pierre de coubertain or sherbrooke in that part of town lately? We're not just talking about a pimp job to the stadium here, don't be naive, it's gonna cost a whole lot more than 700 mil.

That can change overnight...

The trend now with stadiums,is not just the stadium, it 's billions of more dollars of NEW real estate development around it (new condos./office towers..restaurants...look at Edmonton, that was a slum side of town..Now it's the "ICE district"...

Some exciting nightlife in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, sidestepping used injection needles, evading aggressive panhandlers and dodging stray bullets.

It's like adding an extra 9th inning of theatrics, following a tight game. :sarcasm:

If the infrastructure is worth less than 50 mil, it's pointless to not go downtown

That's exactly what they're going to do. They've gotten an earful over the years about the stadium's location, nevermind that it wasn't designed to be a major league park.

Yeah but Edmonton is a ghost town.

What people want is proximity to downtown. After work go to baseball, easily accesible. Leave the ball park drunk and go to the club and bang some hotties

There's way too much concrete for anything like that to happen at the Big O. I notice that the top half of the BC stadium was made of materials that were much more easily disposable.

Main problem with the Big O remains the same -- it's design is not made for our climate. If they're going to be successful in adding a retractable roof, there will have to be a major design reconfiguration and I'm not sure the govt will want to go for that since the external features make it a landmark when it comes to identifying the city abroad. Still, impload please.

Just need to find 19 fake airline hijackers, it worked for the planned 20 billion deconstruction of the twins.

Then just let the CanFed take up the national 'emergency clearing' job.

I'd like your post if I could.

On a more serious note, the place isn't as bad as it used to be. Lived there a long time and I once heard a gunshot in about 10 years. It's not like it was in the 70's and 80's or even 90's. But the place, aesthetically, is still an overall dump. Half the friggin buildings date back over a century. Teardown would be an understatement.

And I expect this will the case here but not in dead Hochelaga. Similar to Lebreton project I expect the group to request land to build a complex with condos + stadium. Part of condos proceeds will be used to finance the new stadium while govts will be called to contribute a portion or offer other incentives.

Football can get away with stadiums built outside of downtown core as there is only one game per week so people don't mind an occasional trek. You have 81 home games in baseball, people want convenient access.

You would never reconize that area(in a good way) if 3 billion got poured into that area....that's the new trend with sports teams arenas....the ARENA..and major development surrounding it ...tons of money to be made in that..AND it makes for a easier sell to tax payers...as the cities taxes the new condo and office towers...resturants /shops etc and .new business is created also etc..

Uhm... Montreal doesn't have the economic growth to support such demographical uprooting and relocating.

Our provincial government is way too stopgap oriented (because of said lack of true economic growth) to ever go for that. Way too conservative, but with Legeault, hey, you never know. He's a lot more progressive than some of the other blokes who were there before him.
