Can’t happen.

I’m not sure why not, but it seems like if we have 1 dman who can provide offence, that’s all we want or need. Never mind that the two dmen can provide offence in two different ways. Let Barrie run the 2nd PP, let Girard run the first.
And since Girard is “better” defensively, give Barrie a whole bunch of offensive zone starts so that we keep scoring 5 on 5.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have 3 really good pairings?

I know I’d like that.
We can have both, Barrie and Girard, you know? If Bednar plays it right we can get Girard's PP prodution plus Barrie's 5v5.

How about that?
It's not about not having more than one, the point is we will eventually have 3 with Makar and Timmins, and Zadorov and Johnson aren't slouches offensively either. He is a luxury. Why would we pay a guy over $7M a year to be an elite offensive defenseman, and not play him on the #1 PP? It's dealing from a position of strength. And the reason I'm advocating trading him is BECAUSE he is so good. There are at least 25 teams in the league that would want or need Barrie, and pay a good price to get him. We can use a luxury to fill needs elsewhere in the lineup, I don't get how it's so difficult to understand.

I'll also get a GIF of our 'PP specialist' Girard separating a Ranger player from the puck and skating it from behind his net to the OZ if you'd like.

With all of this Tyson Barrie talk, I had been under the assumption that he was a UFA following next season; I was surprised to find he isn't a UFA until the 2021 off-season.

Eventually we'll have three. GREAT! So, we'll trade Barrie... eventually!

No need, i saw the game, but few free, it was a great play indeed... i'm so excited about Girard!

I'm not really comfortable with paying Barrie $7M a year or more but that's because currently the defenders with the highest cap hits are Subban ($9M), Burns ($8M) and Hedman ($7.875M).

Karlsson and Doughty will certainly move the ceiling quite a bit and then $7M might not look that bad.

7m isn't that bad IMO, it's 8 that I'm afraid of. I'm not usually one who buys into this trend in contracts. The NHL salary structure is a weird animal. You have guys like Nash and Spezza on 7M contracts from eons ago. They were good star players but never elite.

Consider has anyone mentioned seeing the AVs making the following replacement changes?

1st Line -> EJ to Makar or Timmins? (No)
2nd Line -> Barrie to Makar or Timmins? (Yes/Maybe)
1st PP -> Barrie to Girard? (Yes/Maybe)

So explain why Barrie deserves $7M+ per again? It seems he's replaceable and could be dropped to the 3rd line or play reduced PP time which again does not justify earning so much $$$

More value in a trade the more years left on his contract
