No, we got rid of them the season before when we affiliated with the Swamp Rabbits in Greenville.

holy lol - i had totally forgotten about switching to the swamp rabbits. really, i had forgotten having all three teams within a (relatively) small area. i never had covid, but it still affected my brain apparently.

google tells me the swamp rabbits did stay with the checkers and go with florida - back in november. some of our guys played with fort wayne last season - i guess they were connected with the wolves. i just completely didn't pay any attention to how the echl stuff shook out during covid season.

I know there are historic hard feelings between the Wolves and Hawks, but still… an exhibition game in Chicago seems like a weird sell.

A preseason game as the "home team" in Chicago would be stupid. Unfortunately though instead of making Charlotte a yearly thing like I thought when they came here in 2011, they decided that Quebec City and Halifax were good options too, so it would be kind of on brand.

Given the Wolves history that would surprise me. Unless Dundon bought the franchise. Which would also surprise me. Unless the Wolves owners are really hurting financially from the pandemic season. But all that's based on nothing more than my own uniformed impressions.

On the one hand, partisanship aside, I actually like the Wolves color scheme a lot more than the Canes. But a Wolves rebrand would make it easier on any goalies going back and forth between the two teams.

Dundon buying into the Wolves (even just partially) would be a shot across the bow at Blackhawks ownership. I'm not 100% sure but it almost certainly would be against the Board of Governors' territorial rules.

I like the Wolves' branding, and IMO the unique color scheme and even the ass-ugly logo are a big part of why they're so recognizable against a background of generic minor league teams. They have a semi-NHL feel aesthetically.
