No, nothing is happening, just another solution to get Lou's roster cap compliant (or any move to get cap compliant)

-Send Hamilton and leave Knight in the AHL on the last day of training camp.
-Sign Krug to your $2.95 million contract.
-Leaves you 1 player short for the 20 man roster
-Sign Smith to a 1 year $1,035,025 deal (with an agreement with Smith) puts you at the 20 man roster
-Smith's contract gets rejected by the league because it puts Bruins $1 over the cap
-Bruins have 3 days to work out a new deal while Smith remains on the roster, has full benefits of a signed player and can play until a new deal is reached.
-Day 1, LTIR Savard, recall Hamilton/Knight and sign Smith to his $2.95 million
-Voila - cap compliant

Dom - not sure how it works, but in lieu of signing Krug to a 2.95 deal, then go through all those cap-circumventing measures that could land them in hot water, could they sign both Krug and Smith to 2 separate contracts each virtually simultaneously?

Sign them each to a one year deal at league minimum (or whatever works for the cap) effective for this year, and "make it up" in a second contract extension signed on day 2 of the season - which wouldn't take effect (and subsequently affect the cap) till next season.

I'm sure they could word the contracts so they were contingent on the successful signing of the second deals, to make sure neither parties got screwed...

An argument can be made that they simply erred in rounding up the contracts. Contracts signed under the old CBA were rounded to the nearest dollar, under the current deal they are rounded up

but wouldn't the league hammer them if after they became cap compliant, they offered smith like 2 million more than the original deal?

Yeah probably. Didn't say it was sound

First off Nugs, I don't think Krug gets $2.95 million but closer to $2 million which would give an extra $950,000 towards Smith which would bring him around $2 million in that scenario.

Then you are splitting pennies which would make that scenario more reasonable. Doesn't work with Lou's proposed $2.95 million, but definitely doable if Krug comes in around $2 million

McKenzie: "I think you're going to see the Boston Bruins trade Johnny Boychuk, more than likely." Others possible tho.

@ShawnHutcheon: Hearing that #AnaheimDucks & #NHLFlames have expressed interest in #NHLBruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk.

Welp.
