I thought McIsaac was at least 2 yrs away?
Your point about Cholo being a future Top 4 PMD/PP specialist/trade chip is accurate, however how do you justify all the negatives of signing Krug?
...Bad Defensively, age, small (height & weight & reach) , 5on5, PP specialist, UFA Big $ & Term, Shattenkirk-esque signing, not physical etc.
This screams buyer beware. If he was the final piece on a contender, then maybe yes, but a big no for me (& I like Krug), just not the right fit/time. Need a better 2-way guy.
Where does this "bad defensively" come from?
PP specialist = Best PP QB in the league. I liked those years when we had those guys of players. We did win. Krug is carbon copy of Brian Rafalski.
Great transition player makes us play less in our own and and that also makes us better defensively, when we exhaust our guys less in the own end. Basic things in hockey team building. Krug would make us definitely better, not worse.
Stop being scared about everything and build the team better here and there. One-by-one. In every postition, roles and nice mix of players.
We need better players overall and if some free asset likes to join the team, you sign him. Period. Would be foolish, totally foolish, not to sign him.

McIsaac is pretty fine for our situation. Nemeth looks good and DeKeyser is fine too. If they lose some games, McIsaac can get some taste in, and be mostly at Griffins. Plays same role in the future as those guys currently. Krug would be the left-side offensive dynamo paired with defensive righty. Nemeth and DeKeyser would need to paired with offensive righties like Hronek and Seider. That mix would start looking pretty good.
