Morgan adds a little more context into this in his latest mailbag article.

Morgan goes on to say he expects Meruelo to bring in a CEO he's familiar with and a different skill set. He doesn't expect any changes to the hockey ops side at this time.
Thread

Glad I could provide some context.

Late on this but wonder what Chakya thinks. He and Cohen were joined at the hip.

but from a business perspective things begin and end with an arena-

From Kurt Leavins of the Edmobton Journal. No idea if he has a clue about anything???

"2. The Arizona Coyotes have parted ways with President & CEO Ahron Cohen. Do not be surprised if former Oilers General Manager Peter Chiarelli is a finalist to fill that role. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is said to be supremely unhappy with the situation in Arizona over the alleged tampering with draft eligible CHL players. Especially with the Arizona franchise being a perennial beneficiary of revenue sharing, the stench on this scandal is particularly aromatic. Now…I am not suggesting that Cohen is or should ever be implicated in any or all of that. Only that his absence creates an opening. And that Peter Chiarelli has always had a very good working relationship with Gary Bettman. Chiarelli would be seen as an experienced NHL executive who Bettman could feel he trusts to ensure that this sort of issue does not happen again."

And Morgan was just on NHL xM saying there is zero truth to Chiarelli coming to AZ. Says a replacement likely coming from one of Muerelo’s other enterprises.

This line gives the game away:
" Especially with the Arizona franchise being a perennial beneficiary of revenue sharing, "

It's just make it 7 8 porn.

Just disappointing that when it comes to the Yotes its seemingly okay to not have to do any research by these so called journalists. What are we on 4 months the nhl has been investigating AZ on stretchgate? Still no concrete allegations.

Its not the 1st time it has been months for the League to "investigate" team misconduct. Not saying anyone is guilty but the time frame is not unique.

I don’t recall any other 4 month investigations. Nor do I think they are swamped with things to do. You know who really has time on their hands to do investigation? Sports journalists.

I can recall 2. The Leafs got their punishment 9 months after signing an illegal contract and I think the Devil's penalty for something was passed down months after the infraction. When the next sports journalist prints something against the the League it will be the 1st. Gary runs a tight ship. You might recall he had MacLean fired until public outrage got it overturned.

Ironic this piece found it's way to BoH within the hour. Must still have a lurker in out midst....... :sarcasm:

Anyway...... Appears the Edmonton Journal fired up their Wayback Machine to 2009.

This is a real laugher......

"Now…I am not suggesting that Cohen is or should ever be implicated in any or all of that. "

But he just did in the previous sentence.

That article reads like it's just trying to string stuff together. Besides, it doesn't matter if Bettman likes Chiarelli. Bettman has no say in who is hired because the league no longer owns the team. This is besides the point that Chiarelli is a hockey guy and they're looking to fill a non-hockey role.

One name I will throw out there however is Jay Feaster. He was one of three finalists for the new AHL president before the role went to Scott Howson. His hockey experience aside, Feaster is currently the executive director of community hockey development with the Lightning (non-traditional market). He also previously served as president of the Hershey Bears for a long time before moving into hockey operations.

The way it sounds Meruelo wants to bring in someone from his other business venture. I understand he needs someone he can trust, but I think it might be a mistake to hire someone with no hockey back ground. That is unless he trusts Chayka, and that is the way it sounds.

Chayka has nothing to do with it.

Meruelo wants to tap into the Hispanic market here in Arizona. It’s a big thing for him and it constitutes 40% of the population in the state. Even Cohen admitted it as much and he did not really push that hard at it after the first couple of months.

Hire someone that has experience in both. Mosby mentioned Feaster who has experience in both, and has had success in the past.

My thinking is that this is less a culture move and more a "Save money on salaries during COVID-19" move, but maybe I'm just cynical. Don't know why I'd be that way, but...
I was thinking that as well.. he must be losing alot during this .. even the Casino stuff

But the Yotes always seem to get rid of the wrong people ...
