Thompson was a double overager putting up okay numbers for a not-great program, of course nobody liked the pick. Then he was a Hobey Baker consideration last season and had a fine year this year for a program that lost its best player.

Whomever the scout was that convinced the team to draft him should keep Tyce on his resume; even if he ultimately isn’t an NHL guy. Tyce has turned out to be a good, unusual pick for his slot.

Sharangovich was also a double overager with mediocre numbers when we selected him. Funny how that works.

No, he wasn't. Sharangovich was 2nd in the KHL in points for a U20 player in 2017-18. He was mentioned before the draft by Elliotte Friedman as someone that might be selected.

If hes going right to the big club, I wonder if that means that Goose or (more likely?) Palms is about to get traded? Hes a right hand shot.

He still needs to quarantine and then get some practice time with the club/taxi squad and learn the system. He probably won't be ready to get into the lineup until closer to the trade deadline anyway.

Goose might be Seattle-bound, imo. (not sure they'd take him but who knows?)

Very interested to see Tyce get some action.

He's a UFA, so they wouldn't take him - but maybe they try to sign him as a free agent.

Yeah. I can see Seattle signing him to a 1-year show-me deal.

Not a great program?? Just recently - 2015 National Champs, 2019 Frozen Four (which Thompson was key freshman on...), 6 straight NCAA appearances, play in Hockey East, and is the program of a certain ex-Devil exec - Lou Lamoriello.

Tyce played at the highest level of college hockey and proved he's a player

Not a real follower of college hockey I guess....

Somehow you elided over the decade of irrelevance Providence fell into, I wonder how that happened.

But yes, I didn't realize they were back on top.

I never claimed to be. Of course, they did also just miss the tournament again this year.

So is there reason to be legitimately excited about this kid? I know very little about him. Are we looking at a potential 4th liner or something more?

Have a good feeling about him. I was curious when we drafted him so I would periodically look him up. I obviously don't know as much as some of the people who have followed him more closely here...but the bit I did see I liked a lot...I am sucker for a good shooter and he is that.

Not a fan of this program either. I hope this player is better than his brother who seems like a stiff

What's the rush to get him in the NHL vs. someone like Foote then?
Thompson was drafted as a double overager, so he is almost a year and a half older than a guy like Nolan Foote. He has more experience playing against tougher competition in college rather than a guy like Foote who is just now getting into the AHL and learning the ins and outs of a more competitive pro-styled game. I'd argue Thompson might be a bit better than Foote at this moment, while Foote has higher potential than Thompson, thus his ranking as a better prospect.

Thats a good question.

For me there is a little more intrigue and I think need for Right handed shot as opposed to a Left. But Foote should probably get an opportunity.

Tyce is older so his two year ELC doesn’t slide because of his age and this year is burned. So he’s signed next year and then he needs a new deal RFA contract.

Foote hasn’t played much hockey in long while and he only has 13 AHL games under his belt. He probably going to get more seasoning. Also, according to Cap Friendly Foote’s young enough that his contract is eligible for an entry level slide, so if he plays less than 10 NHL games then his ELC is still 3 years long.

Based on a handful of viewings, I'm cautiously optimistic that he can fit into the third line eventually. He played center in college but might project as a right wing in the pros.

He played RW last year and was switched to center. His coach has said he thinks Thompson is better at wing than center, so I agree that he projects to be a wing.
